Financial Times:

Barack Obama fought to regain the initiative in the presidential race on Tuesday as the Wall Street financial crisis threatened to stall the recent burst of momentum behind John McCain.

The banking meltdown has thrust the economy back to the centre of the campaign, giving Mr Obama a chance to hit back after two weeks of declining poll numbers and escalating Republican attacks.

The only chance they have is to get Hillary on the ticket. Everyone knows it and Joe Biden of all peole should understand this and step down.
The only way to beat the Republicans is with Hillary now or in 2012.

I just found out for sure that badgering is a kind of abuse on this site. Good to know. Of course, you have to use your own judgement and if the person or persons badgering you is/are usually drunk, or seem to be, you can just shrug and move on.

Nice to know, anyway.

McCain doesn't want a bureaucrat standing between you and your doctor, but has no problem with a bureaucrat standing between investors and their losses. Why he isn't getting 28% in the polls is beyond the pale...unless it's because he is pale.

Regarding McCain stopping the troopergate investigation:

This is outrageous, the Investigator should threaten to reveal all the evidence he has accumulated so far, including the phone recordings if the republicans and Alaska's Attorney General try to stall or end the investigation. For Christ's sake, Bill Clinton had to testify at his impeachment trial (for an unimpeachable offense) and he was President of the USA,what the heck is this? And since the republicans under John McCain are now spearheading the efforts to quash or stall the hearings, the democrats need an AD asking Shara Palin "What is it you are hiding? we must know if you want to be the Vice President and possibly President of the USA". Democrats don't BLINK!! This a matter of TRUST.

Obama - Biden 08......... People you can trust and believe in!!

It's all well and good that O & Co. are slamming JM's economic policies, but they still need to talk EVERY DAY about the Repugs' LIES. KEEP THIS MESSAGE GOING...without credibility, nothing Mac says about ANY topic can be trusted. With all of the bad press that JM/SP got last week, the opportunity to keep exposing their lack of integrity and character is too good to let pass by. Mac will probably ease back on the slime, so don't expect the media to keep the issue alive. CHARACTER MATTERS!

I have no friend no hat, though I believe nochnoi thinks I do judging from a post I got from her a couple of weeks ago. I don't intend to spend one more minute trying to figure it out. Think what you want, and don't bother replying again because you won't get a response.

I don't like innuendos and actually I don't like the posts you did where you said I sound very young, which I found condescending.

Anyway, bye.

The crux of the whole problem starts with housing followed by greed in Wall Street. Fannie May and Freddie Mac subsidized loans to people who cannot afford houses but they did that because these are Democrat sponsored institutions that loan money to the Democratic base of poor voters. That is why Obama is the second largest beneficiary of PAC money from these institutions. As for greed in Wall Street - well that is what Wall Street is about as long as we have capitalism. The problem there is that the rating agencies were asleep at the wheel - AIG, Lehman should have had junk rating long time ago. This has nothing to do with Government regulations but failure of internal institutions..

Nitpicking on irrelevant issues is a habit of Obamanuts!! The subprime mess is largely a problem of the urban poor and they are overwhelmingly democratic voters.

An eight year old would know that if you give a couple a mortage five times their combined yearly income, trouble awaits.

Over here in England when Northern Rock bit the dust, the 4 fatcats at the top got off because Gordon Brown, bless him, decided that these 4 fatcatsjust were not aware, at the time, of the amount of risk they were taking. ????? As I've said, an eight year old.... Instead of hammering them, he invited them all to breakfast at 10 Downing Street, a full English breakfast. Over the tomato and fried mushrooms, he slapped their hands.

And now today, they have had to merge HBO with Lloyds to save HBO, and in doing this they have created a monster bank that, six months ago, they were saying would be very very bad for the UK. Up to 40,000 people will now lose their ,jobs, is one estimate. But the fatcats live on, taking their bonuses, and, over here, letting us, the taxpayers, pay for their mistakes.

These fatcats should be prosecuted and put to jail if the law allows for that.

To be commended for advancing the cause of the unfortunate but not necessarily of the poor. There is a big difference!! Because someone can be poor due to many reasons - they may have given their best shot and are still unfortunate or they may be poor but produce babies and then disappear to leave the mother with the baby!! In the second case, it is not the Government that should be sent to the rescue before we allow the Government to also drag the dad by the collar and have him work sweeping streets to support the mother and the baby!!

Oh for pete's sake, who's been in power the last 8 years?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:49 AM on 09/17/2008

Well... Abby... we do not live in a dictatorship. Power is shared in the U.S. But around every election, the party who doesn't run the presidency blames everything on the party that holds the presidency.

Neither side is without guilt in the current financial crises, but since Bush is president, the democrats blame all ills on him.

The truth is that bank deregulation started with Clinton, though many libs like to blame Phil Gramm. But you can't have it both ways. If Bush is responsible for everything that's gone wrong the last 8 years, then Clinton must be held responsible for bad laws passed while he was president.

The truth is that Clinton began deregulating the banking industry to put off recession. Bush continued this policy to put off recession. The result is that we more than likely face a full blown depression.

We need a president who doesn't care only about his or her legacy and is willing to let the economy tank. It will be good for us in the long run.

Obama is again talking generalities!! Ok, everyone knows world hunger is bad!! So what is your answer? Socialism?? Re-distribution of wealth?? Raising Dividend Taxes??

If you didnt have the attention span of a gnat, you would hear the specifics of Obama's policy. In fact, last night they MSM kinda teased him about going into TOO MUCH detail on how he would fix this mess that the Repigs have gotten us into.

But which of my statements about his policy prescriptions are untrue?? He will re-distribute wealth and raise dividend taxes. BTW where was he in the last 3 years in the senate?? Can you point me to any specific statements he made?? Anyone can be sage after the fact!!

Typical GOP BS; the GOP operatives used defensive legistative tactics to prevent Dems from acting, and then try to spin it as a "dems did nothing" situation. That's a bunch of crap and you know it....

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:27 AM on 09/17/2008

But why didn't the Dems raise hell?? Can you tell me which exact bills they proposed but was blocked that would try to address the financial mess??

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:31 AM on 09/17/2008

Oh... so the republicans keep the democrats from acting, but the democrats let the republicans pass whatever laws they want?

Last I checked, the democrats have the majority in the senate and house. They've had a majority in the senate for 6 of the 8 years Bush has held office.

The 2 years they were in the minority, the blocked everything they could. Now that it's the republicans blocking, you cry foul.

Face it, both parties suck. Our government is no longer for the people, but for the party.
Obama says he's a post-partisan politician, yet he has done NOTHING that is not partisan.

McCain is far more post-partisan than Obama, but even McCain votes with the republicans 95% of the time.

What this country really needs is a center party determined to do what's best for the country and not their party.

How about it Hillary? Man, I wish she'd run as an independent. Wouldn't that be great?
