Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow shared diet and exercise tips, stories of Madonna and her love of food with Oprah Winfrey Wednesday afternoon.

After her summer stunning in a variety of mini dresses and low-cut jumpsuits doing "Iron Man" publicity, Oprah was quick to ask about her post-baby diet and exercise tips. Paltrow credited trainer Tracy Anderson, who also trains Madonna.

"I just can't do it. I just cannot diet," Paltrow, 35, told Oprah. "I think maybe it's the idea that you can't have something... It's worth it to me to do that extra exercise so I can eat what I want and not think about it."

She even let a camera film her working out, telling it, "I work freaking hard."

Watch part of the workout:

Oprah also asked about Madonna. Gwyneth told how her friend helped her overcome her postnatal depression following son Moses, and said how great her three kids are. Madonna "is one of the most caring women, and she's also one of those tough women... she has a very soft, soft side..." Paltrow went on, "Her children are beyond... the little one is just, oh my god, he kills me... Her littlest son David does dance routines from her concert on the living room floor. My son and him battle over if they want to listen to daddy's song or mommy's song."

She was then joined by Mario Batali, with whom she filmed the PBS series Spain...On the Road Again, which debuts Sept. 20. Mario told how Gwyneth can suck down paella like a truck driver and is a black hole for french fries. She just won't eat 4-legged animal meat. The pair then cooked a paella, Asparagus Alla Plancha and Flamenquines for Oprah and the audience while drinking wine. Recipes here.

I just sat here and ate a bag (7.4 oz) of reese's pieces and I think a lot of people who are leaving comments to the "negative" factor are just jealous. If you don't want to be skinny - just sit down and join me with a bag of goodies (I recommend the reese's pieces) and sit down and watch this workout. It sure made me feel a lot better. I am feeling the burn!

I tuned in to Oprah and was surprised to see Gwenyth talking to Oprah about dieting and exercise.... hasn't Gwen always been lean and lanky?
She tried to show how one underarm jiggled more than her 'strong arm'-I have a 40" screen and did not see a jiggle- Oprah was a very good sport for "empathising" with Gwenyth - I couldn't -anyone who can employ a trainer for 2 hours a day 6 days a week - and have that uninterrupted time (at her own beautiful zen like spa gym no less) should be in great shape and I felt it was completely tasteless and rude to actually be discussing her body 'flaws' with Oprah who has seriously battled weight issues for so long - I only watched a few minutes -

I like the fact that Gwyneth doesn't have any makeup! Question? Do you find it easy to workout or hard to keep a routine? I'm trying to lost a bit of weight and I need some direction! I have the ball and these arm bands, which are painful, as you go with the exercise. I can't run anymore -- sorry to say -- due to my Knee OA.

Does no one see? From the picture of Paltrow lifting her leg, her hip bone is skeletal (sp?). Point is, she looks like a halloween skeleton . . . creepy.

Not healthy at all. If you literally want to be skin and bones, exercise like a maniac for three hours a day, eat a carrot and if you don't die, you'll lose your eyesight, then you'll break a few bones, then you'll have cardiac failure. . . beautifu**ingful!

Don't forget she smokes like a sailor. What the hell is she trying to prove by this video. Skin, bones and black lungs are pretty gross.

that's right-no wonder she hates cardio......

Madonna is lifting more than 3 lbs. No way she got that cut with 3lb weights.

she does ashtanga yoga which utilizes your own body weight for a vigorous series of asanas (poses). it will make anyone ripped, if you can hang with it.

No woman should lift more than 3lbs? I beg to differ...!
*curls 10x that*
There's nothing wrong with being a physically strong woman.. or weighing more than 90lbs for that matter.

She works out six days a week? A relatively new mother can only do this with a nanny, which obviously she can afford. This woman is a stick figure. Are we supposed to want to be here? This is nauseating. I shut it off after a few mind-numbingly boring seconds. People the economy is in the toilet, we have McCain and Palin trying to hijack our lives ... focus on what's important. It isn't "working out" and worrying if Gwyneth Paltrow can lose the jingly underarms. Jesus. Are we this vacuous?

I do routine exercise daily for 30 minutes a day - seven days a week. Before or after work. And on Saturday, I pamper myself with 4 hours of massage, then swimming, sauna, steam bath, manicure and pedicure ( i do it myself). I also learned to medidate. I love food and no diet for me.
And, no jingly underarms.

My job with AIG is soooooo stressful. I worry about my job, how to pay my mortgage, student loan and car note. I worry about gasoline prices etc etc. I care about my country and it's economy. I am very aware of all these issues affecting my existence. Economy is important for me, but I realized, to survive, I need to take care of my health. And yes, I my underarms do not jingle.

And definitely, I am not vacuous. You should worry about your mental health. By the way you express your concerns, you're just about ready to jump from the 45th floor.

It aint worth it.

Well aren't you the smarty pants, and your underarms don't jingle? I should hope not, lest you've got some tassles hanging around under there, but do they jiggle though? Well here's the bright side, your job at AIG won't be stressing you out for much longer :)

Love her acting, but losing weight is a lot easier when you can afford a zillion dollars an hour to a trainer to drag your butt out of bed! Actors also have months off between films to keep in shape. They know better than anyone it's in their best interest to look their best. I get sick of celebrities patting themselves on the back, try staying slim and working a regular job!

Just another self absorbed actress.

Gee, folks, I hve a personal trainer, chef, servents, shopper, etc.

Don't ya just wish you were me or Oprah?

Well, hve someone write words for me to say and then hire someone to tell me how to say it: that's an actor.

Wow.. what a great job the trainers have. Imagine getting paid a lot to workout with famous people...

I could not even watch the whole interview. While I understand that actors live these amazing lifestyles, I simply have found that the older I get the less I can tolerate crap like this.

Although I eat a vegetarian diet, I'm not chained to the notion of never eating meat, poultry etc again, and hate the idea of NOT eating something I want if I want it. That said, GP would probably do herself a favor to drop the won't anything on four legs declaration unless she's found the first sea-pig or pig-chicken to make that sausage the paella recipe calls for.

While I agree this issue merits close inspection, can we please get more stories about Ernest Borgnine choking his chicken. An eager nation awaits.

Doesn't watching a woman who is rich with her trainer in a 80 degree room, situated before her lovely apple orchard, while her children play at the pool for the duration of her workout (no doubt supervised by the nanny and/or governess as the chef prepares a perfect macrobiotic meal) kind of make you sick to your stomach? What about when she complains that one of her arms is pretty flabby?

No it doesn't. And I'm happy for Gwyneth.

It is ironic that I am going to step in on this conversation because I am not a big fan of Paltrow's. However, while we could and can snicker at any Hollywood actress talking about how tough their lives are given their lifestyles (as in: get a clue and join the real world if you want to know about "tough")... I think her focus here is not that she has a "tough life" but that her body is what it is through work. I am not going to fault that message since too many young girls hate their bodies these days and/or think that famous people have perfect bodies (thanks to the miracle of photoshop).

Finally, I would kill (figuratively) for that house in the Hamptons. It does seem like a perfect place.
