Anyone who has studied psychology knows just how puzzling human behavior can be. Busy people are trying to cope in a complex world, and this means they simply cannot afford to think deeply about every choice they have to make. "Tricking" people into doing the right thing, or what one wants them to do, could also be interpreted as being polite and diplomatic, as opposed to being bossy, rude, and intrusive.

By the way, the picture accompanying this post is, I believe, from the movie "Dirty, Rotten, Scoundrels".
Our family loved that movie when it came out. Anyone looking for an often overlooked gem of a comedy, please see it. I laughed so hard I actually had to turn away from the screen so I could stop laughing and catch my breath.
