WASHINGTON — A top Hillary Rodham Clinton fundraiser threw her support behind Republican John McCain on Wednesday, saying he will lead the country in a centrist fashion and accusing the Democrats of becoming too extreme.

"I believe that Barack Obama, with MoveOn.org and Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean, has taken the Democratic Party _ and they will continue to _ too far to the left," Lynn Forester de Rothschild said. "I'm not comfortable there."

Rothschild is also a member of the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee. She said she would be stepping down from her position on the committee but will not switch political parties.

Clinton spokeswoman Kathleen Strand said in an e-mail that the New York senator disagrees with Rothschild's decision to endorse McCain.

"Senator Clinton has been criss-crossing the country and doing whatever she can to make the very clear case that the Obama-Biden ticket represents the new ideas and positive change we need right now, and the McCain-Palin ticket does not," Strand said in the e-mail.

Rothschild said she was excited by the prospect of a woman being in the White House, even though she and Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin disagree on issues. The Alaska governor opposes abortion except in the case of a threat to the mother's life. Rothschild said she supports abortion rights.

"I believe that the McCain-Palin government will be a centrist government," Rothschild said. "It's not going to be an ideological government."

Rothschild is a member of the DNC's Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York. She was one of Clinton's top fundraisers, bringing in more than $100,000 for her presidential campaign. She built a multimillion-dollar telecommunications company before marrying international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild.

Rothschild said she has not discussed her support for McCain with Clinton.

"I'm sure she is not pleased with what I'm doing today," she said. "But you know what? I have to do what I believe in."

Come to think of it, could Madame Huffington herself be considered a "stupid, rich, old lady" too? It's a facile smear to throw at someone who has the cojones (metaphorical in the case of Lady de Rothschild, of course) to commit to a belief; after all, Ms. Huffington herself, some years ago, switched political sides, if one recalls, and she was perfectly entitled to do so in a democratic society. As a defender of democracy, I might strongly disagree with Ms. Huffington's beliefs, but I would not stoop to childishly smearing her.

So, MADAME, where is the surprise? Rejoining the family to mend fences perhaps?

McCain Backed by Rothschilds - Washington Post
Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Sen. John McCain plans at least one campaign event on his week-long congressional trip to Europe and the Middle East: a March 20 fundraiser in London. An invitation sent out by the campaign says the luncheon will be held at Spencer House, St. James"s Place, "by kind permission of Lord Rothschild OM GBE and the Hon Nathaniel Rothschild." Tickets to the invitation-only event cost $1,000 to $2,300. Attire is listed as "lounge suits."

The fundraiser will be limited to Americans, as foreigners are not permitted to donate to presidential candidates.

McCain spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker said the campaign will reimburse Congress for the political portions of the trip, as well as the senator"s flight home, because he is flying separately from the congressional delegation.

"We are also paying for the fundraiser and his hotel that evening in London," Hazelbaker said. "We will reimburse the Treasury for the cost of a flight to London."

Everytime the repubs come out making a claim against Obama, it reminds me of when we used to play "opposite day" in elmentary school when the object of the game was that everything we said and did was the opposite of what we really meant. Trust me, Obama is actually the outsider here. He has never really fit in with these people, that is why they can't stand him because how could a bi-racial kid come up in the ranks without being apart of their club? That is why he such a strong advocate for change because he knows the real problem in Wash. are people like De Rothschild who expect people to bow down to them because of how much money they have.

elite -- A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status.
Noun -- elitist - someone who believes in rule by an elite group.
The above definition describes everyone in the business of politics and includes even the Eggheads who support Obama because they believe that he should rule because he has superior intellectual status.
There are some Republican Elitists and there are some Democratic Elitists. The person I want to be President is a pragmatist.
noun --- a person who is oriented toward the success or failure of a particular line of action, thought, etc.; a practical person.
Bill Clinton was and still is this type of person and proved it in the 90s. If Obama can prove himself to be the same type of person in the next 45 days, I will vote for him but not until he proves he is not an empty suit! I am waiting and time is running out.

She of the Rothschild family linked to the Rockfellers, DuPoints, Vanderbuilts and the BUSH FAMILY?

You know, those families that think they should be rulers of the world?

Those familiest that start WARs for THEIR profit?

Those families that drive countries into debt to the LENDING INSTITUTIONS for THEIR profit?

That Rothschild?

Was Cindy's father part of this group? Probably not since he did not have the proper lineage.

I am positive she doesn't know how many mansions her family owns in America,
not to mention Europe, Asia , Russia, Africa, Australia and South America and the Phillipines.

Who gives a damn if De Rothschild has a lot of money or mansios. This woman made this money herself. people come from other countries to live in the USa to make a better life for themselves, and make a lot of money. Get off your high horse about how much money she has. Barack Obama is not exactly poor. This is so stupid. The same with Mccains wife, her family built their business from nothing many years ago, and made their own money, Stop being jealous of other people's fortunes, when they made their wealth themselves.

You missed the point Viginiap. Akkadian was basically saying "and she's calling Obama elitist?" By theway, Obama just got his $5 million from the sale of his books over the past 2 years. Take a deep breath.

I am with Lynn. As a long time Democrat and being a minority, Obama clearly shows sign of arrogance as a part of the social elites.
