Politico:

I have been a longtime admirer of John McCain. During the 2000 Republican presidential primaries I publicly defended McCain against the pro-Bush Republicans' whisper campaign that he was too unstable to be president (aware though I was that he had a temper). Two years later I published a positive book about him, "Citizen McCain."

...

Now he's back to declaring himself a maverick, but it's not clear what that means. If he gains the presidency, is he going to rebel against the base he's now depending on to get him elected? (Hence his selection of running mate Sarah Palin.) Campaigns matter. If he means "shaking up the system" (which is not the same thing), opposing earmarks doesn't cut it.

McCain's recent conduct of his campaign - his willingness to lie repeatedly (including in his acceptance speech) and to play Russian roulette with the vice-presidency, in order to fulfill his long-held ambition - has reinforced my earlier, and growing, sense that John McCain is not a principled man.

In fact, it's not clear who he is.

The author says, "...In fact, it's not clear who he is..."

Au Contraire! The facts are in: 1) He's a rethug. 2) He is against regulations. 3) He's given Bush everything Cheney wanted. 4) Bush said he was best qualified to be president.

He's Bush's clone....or Bush is his clone.

Given how appalling the Paiin /Mc Ancient campaign has been, don't you secretly wonder if the Repugs (1)set this whole thing up to get back at Mc Ancient; (2) want to lose because the country's down the toilet and they're no good at fixing problems, just making them?

SPANKOLA!

McCain should have just retired as a senator and dropped this attempt. He sold his soul to the devil to try to win the presidency.
His Keating 5 blockade of investigation and his cheating on his wife while she lay broken in a hospital, and his playing a Key part in the mortgage disaster, would not have been brought up if he had stayed home. Then he could have retired known as a maverick, as a straight talker, and not as the GOP whipping boy he has now become.
His candidacy is literally going over the edge of a cliff of lunacy and misery.... All the people in his campaign have no morals, no integrity, no willingness to live a Godly life. No common sense and only an agenda for personal gain and political and financial power.

McCain you have soiled yourself with this horrible campaign and you need to apologize to the American people for helping cause the mortgage meltdown and subsequent financial sector disaster with your approval of the deregulation bill Gramm sent through you in 1998. And apologize for this abysmal campaign of deceit, lies, and dishonor.
Maybe then pity will be your friend and you may go quietly into obscurity.

McCain lost himself

I am not sure he knows what is he talking about anymore. Looks like the desire to move to the White House is clouding's senator's mind.

During the debates in 04 everyone was looking for the telltale bump of the radio device in Bush's coat. This year we'll be looking fo the telltale bump of Depends in McScum's pants.

Well, I don't know about Depends, but I've seen photos of him looking like he's wearing a colostomy bag.

Is there ANY Republican that wouldn't rather have someone - anyone- on the ticket than McCain/Palin?

I'd love to see Colin Powell endorse Obama. Bet he's under tremendous pressure to keep his mouth shut.
