St. Petersburg Times:

Five weeks ago, the St. Petersburg Times convened a group of Tampa Bay voters who were undecided about the presidential election. Their strong distrust of Barack Obama suggested it was a group ripe for John McCain to win over.

Not anymore. The group has swung dramatically, if unenthusiastically, toward Democrat Obama. Most of them this week cited the same reason: Sarah Palin.

I shoulda figured it out when McCain said his favorite group is ABBA. The guy loves PALINDROMES. Picking Palin, though begs the question: DO GEESE SEE GOD?

Just read an opinion on Washington Post by Capehart entitled "All About Sarah, Scene 2". He drew a comparison between Palin and the character Eve Harrington in "Three Faces of Eve".

There were two comments I thought particularly on the mark:

"She's beyond Eve--she's Evita. Self-creating (just a plain girl from the North Country), self-serving (Wasilla hired a town manager to restrain this "reformer's" cronyism), self-dramatizing (I said, "Thanks, but no thanks"), self-consecrating (she's carrying out God's plan), self-aggrandizing ("the Palin and McCain administration")--and, if we're lucky, self-destructing."

and

"Is she Josef Palin or Sarah Stalin?"

I thought I share an 'aha' moment.

What is up with these C l i n t o n supporters? Are they really considering M C C A I N over O B A M A? How in the world could they do that if they just sat down and looked at the issues and how the two lined up on them - it isn't even close. My only suggestion is it is soft (or maybe hard) racism. They are as bad as the rednecks...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:36 AM on 09/22/2008

Being called a racist because I don't trust Obama and haven't decided to vote for him isn't going to swing my to his side. I am tired of the race card played on both sides. He is half-black, I know, I get it, now I don't want to hear anyone who supported Hillary but not Obama is racist.

Any democrat will have similar talking points as Hillary, that doesn't mean they should be president. What if McCain after June took the same stance as Hillary would you vote for McCain? It is more than just what a person says, it is the trust to believe that they will do what they say. I don't trust Obama, he seems to always take the middle ground, and says what he thinks we want to hear. When it is a tough decision he votes present, or says it is above his pay grade. Obama grow a pair, and take a true stand on gun control, abortion, gay marraige, don't sit on the fence pick a postion. Until you do, I will stay home on November 4th.

Staying home on November 4 is not an option for any citizen in these United States. You must see that this is the most important election of your lifetime and that of your children. If you do not see the definite difference between continuing the demise of our great country under the Republicans if McCain-Palin are elected and beginning to tackle our broken economy and foreign policy with intelligence and consensus-building if Obama-Biden are elected, you are not listening...or breathing for that matter. The differences could not be more clear and the consequences more critical in who we elect as the 44th President of the USA. Angelus2007, stop responding emotionally to the trash being spread by Karl Rove and Company: Are you really better off under the Republicans after 8 years? Do you believe that McCain and Palin are anything other than pawns of the same people who brought you the Wall Street Meltdown?

If you supported Hillary, how can you NOT support Obama? Where Obama and Hillary stand on the issues is the only thing that is important in this election. With the exception of Health Care, (and Obama and Hillary were still very close) their positions on the issues are virtually identical.

Pal in/mCC ain, not so much (*tongue in cheek* ). They are, in fact, oceans apart (scarily so). So if your hesitation has nothing to do with race, nor gender, then if you truly supported Hillary, there would be no hesitation. It would be an automatic vote for Obama.

If this is not the case, then either you did not really support Hillary, or you are not truthful when you say gender and/or race does not matter. It's that simple. If after what took place last week did not convince you and instead, you are still hesitating, I also seriously question your judgment (or lack thereof). Simply put, one knows when one has really bombed when the likes of George Will and Sam Donaldson, two very respected conservative economic experts, criticize you, as happened yesterday. Mc Cain truly bombed.

Angelus2007: your profile states that you:
-will never vote for someone who will raise MY taxes without good reason (welfare, food stamps, scholarships for children of illegals are not good reasons).
-will never vote for someone who will take away my rights to own a gun.
I think you certainly can vote for Barack Obama with no hesitation as he believes in your right to own a gun and does not believe in raising taxes for things better left for individuals and local government and organizations to take care of. If you have the impression that Barack Obama is against guns or for raising taxes on the Middle Class, you should look at his positions and voting record: See http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/issues/additional/Obama_FactSheet_Western_Sportsmen.pdf and http://origin.barackobama.com/taxes/
There have been a lot of misrepresentations and lies paid for by the same guys who brought you George Bush in 2000 and 2004 because they are afraid of a Barack obama administration.

What other VP candidate could attract a crowd of 60,000?
Oh--Hillary Clinton.
And Obama didn't have the backbone or good judgement to chose her.
So he's got ding dong Biden angering voters by telling them to be patriotic and pay more taxes while he barely gives 1% to charity.

Palin drew a crowd of 60,000--a VP candidate!

In a DEEPLY conservative/fundamentalist retirement community in FL! They're all retired, what else were they going to do? Pass up the chance to see Sarah Barracuda possibly speak in tongues, and instead go and play canasta?

Yup, she's got the Third Wave Pentacostal vote sewn up. People who believe in replacing our democracy with theocracy LOVE her, because that's the teaching of the church she's belonged to for 20+ years. Joel's Army is bringing up her rear flank as we speak. I'm sure Todd Bentley has endorsed her!

Everybody else gets more scared the more they hear about her. Read the full article that this HuffPo item links to, and then read all of the reader comments in the greater Tampa Bay-St. Pete area (hardly a bastion of radical liberalism). People have had enough of right-wing, fundamentalist ideologues (well, except for people who ARE right-wing fundamnetalist ideologues). They've seen the results... been there, done that, for eight excruciating years.

No more!

And, that's the problem with you pesky knee-jerks.

America just about is to close the door on one of you 'average Americans' in intellect folks called George Bush, and not a moment too late. Americans who want someone like themselves not only should, but MUST encourage their children to have grands---if you want someone like yourself to inhabit the planet.

The job of President is not one where we should or MUST settle for ordinary folks like Sarah Palin; while I have nothing personally against her, she simply is not the type of brilliant, extraordinary individual who will best represent this nation and her people to the world.

America is a complex and unique economic and political organism, and it requires a leader who understands the larger picture and who is capable of putting together a competent team of professionals to run it. We don't need a 'beer buddy' in the Whitehouse, or one who can hunt 'moose', rather we need one who is intelligent enough to fix our problems and competent enough to use our tax dollars for us, not silly republican-made wars.

***************PART TWO***************

Palin the Penecostal appeared for another farcical performance. She blathered her half-truths and quickly left. The Plutocracy doesn't want her speaking in tongues or otherwise beyond her scripted, insubstantive slogans. For example, she told the crowd that Obama planned to raise their income and payroll taxes and in knee-jerk reaction the crowd booed. In fact, Obama is proposing that retirees earning below $50K yearly will pay no tax; and that the maximum amount subject to FISA payroll tax be increased to fund FISA. Most wage earners are paying FISA tax on an amount below the current maximum so they won't be affected. Overall, about 90/95% of income earners will receive tax cuts under Obama's proposal. There will be no tax reform if the voters send to Congress still more stooges dedicated to the solid financial comfort of the Plutocrats. If that should result, the Country may be on its way to self-destruction.

What is so appalling is that many of the attendees will swallow Palin's halftruth and affirm that they will vote for McCain because they don't want those tax increases. Thus, using deceit and lies so typical of the rightwinger Plutocrats who gave us the Bush Disaster and Gilded Age II for eight years, many if not most in this Lady Lakes crowd will have been duped into voting against their own economic and political interests.

This is not the first time I've read of the importance of taxes to elderly Floridians. I think it is imperative the O bama campaign come up with a few ads to be run in Florida to bring home the truth that they will not be taxed if they earn less than $50 K. These lies (who Pa - lin?) need to be answered with the facts.

*********PART ONE**********

Florida has its share of evangelical pentecostal types, and the crowd at Lady Lakes demonstrated this very well. This is an area of the State where many ordinary American retirees live but not in the style of those wealthy retirees abundantly in southeast Florida. For reasons best known to themselves, Floridians from Pensacola to Jacksonville and southerly to Orlando and from there coast to coast across the State, all believe that the Republican rightwinger political style represents their best interests. When things inevitably go wrong for them under rightwinger deception, then it's time to blame "those libruls."

"The one thing that frightens me more than anything else are the ideologues. We've seen too many," said 80-year-old Air Force veteran Donn Spegal, a lifelong Republican from St. Petersburg, who sees McCain's new running mate as the kind of "wedge issue" social conservative that has made him disenchanted with his party.

Mr. Spegal gets it. Ideologues do not know how to compromise on the issues they are pushing and under Bush they have pushed far too much.

As for the 5 children, a cousin of mine had 5 kids and she said the same thing.

To the 22-college girl, “Be Army Strong”. If you want this country to be in Iraq, which is bleeding us at the tune of 10 billion a month, without a timeline, than sing up.
