The map hasn't changed all that much in 148 years. But the political parties have switched places.
The northeast part of the country, from Illinois to Maine -- along with California and Oregon -- likes the tall, skinny lawyer from Illinois.
The vast heartland of the country from the Great Plains through the South leans the other way.
Republicans have complained in recent elections that while they have won more states, the Democrats' strategy relies on winning the coasts and the urban, northern Rust Belt.
And yet that's exactly the map the Republican Abraham Lincoln rode to victory in 1860.
