Meg Ryan: 'Scarlet Woman' Label During Crowe Affair Freed Her

Meg Ryan says going from being "America's sweetheart" to the "scarlet woman" was painful but liberating.

The 46-year-old actress, who can currently be seen on screen in The Women, opens up in the October issue of In Style about her affair with Proof of Life costar Russell Crowe and problems she was having with then-husband Quaid, which led to their divorce.

"Dennis was not faithful to me for a long time, and that was very painful," she says, adding, "I am not a victim. I was there. I was in that marriage for a really long time."

"It was also incredibly liberating," she tells the magazine of the public split. "Now I was utterly free. I didn't have to care about what people thought. I have gotten to do what I guess I secretly wanted to do. Be totally under the radar and live my life."

Man, a little off the subject, but I was at Blockbusters and they were playing a promo for the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler movie "Straight to Video" I think it was called? Anyway, the title should have been instead of "Baby Mama"- (yeah, that was it) "Two Homley Girls Make a Movie". Sheez! Send this one to Bin Laden's boys and they will come out of the woods and surrender.

no, this is true. Quaid's a pretty well-known womanizer from way back, just like Dave Duchovny. What gets me is how their respective wives got so ridiculously clingy as if they truly believed that they (Meggie and Tea) were the True Loves of these guys' lives. You'd think that Hollywood people would be more open to polyamory not rejecting of it. And don't even tell me they're upset for their respective kids' sakes because their dads clearly sure don't give a damn.

Well actually Meg Ryan was known to cheat with a number of behind the camera men she worked. Do not believe RC was her first or last. She is not telling the whole story, just the one that draws sympathy for her. She played the game as hard as Dennis.
