Home sales in Illinois tumbled 27 percent in August compared to the year-ago month, a trade group reported Wednesday.
The Illinois Association of Realtors said August total home sales (which includes single-family residences and condominiums) stood at 10,601, compared to 14,562 in August of 2007. The latest month's sales represented a 4.6 decline from sales in July 2008, the group noted.
The median price of homes sold -- the price at which half the sales were higher and half lower -- dropped 7.1 percent to $195,000 from $210,000 12 months earlier.
