More information is emerging about the peculiar religious upbringing of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

On Tuesday, progressive writer and documentarian Max Blumenthal reported on visits he had made to Palin's former church, the Wasilla Assembly of God, in late September, and the sermons of the controversial visiting pastor, Thomas Muthee.

"Muthee implored his audience to wage 'spiritual warfare' against 'the enemy.' As I filmed, a nervous church staffer approached from behind and told me to put my camera away. I acceded to his demand, but as Muthee urged the church to crush 'the python spirit' of the unbeliever enemies by stomping on their necks, I pulled out a smaller camera and filmed from a more discreet position. Now, church members were in deep prayer, speaking in tongues and raising their hands. Muthee exclaimed, 'We come against the spirit of witchcraft! We come against the python spirits!' Then, a local pastor took the mic from Muthee and added, 'We stomp on the heads of the enemy!'"

The story provides another strange ripple to Palin's religious background. As reported earlier, the Alaska Governor once credited Muthee with helping spiritually propel her to the governor's chair.

"He was praying: 'Lord make a way, Lord make a way,'" Palin recalled of Muthee during a speech to congregants at Wasilla Assembly of God. "And I'm thinking, this guy's really bold, he doesn't even know what I'm going to do, he doesn't know what my plans are. And he's praying not 'oh Lord if it be your will may she become governor,' No, he just prayed for it. He said 'Lord make a way and let her do this next step.' And that's exactly what happened."

Blumenthal, in addition to his on the scenes reporting, posts video of the sermon which Palin references (footage begins at 7:30). In it, the minister implores Jesus to protect Palin from "the spirit of witchcraft." Earlier, he states, "We need God taking over our education system. If we have God in our schools, we will not have our kids being taught how to worship Buddha, how to worship Muhammad. We will not have in the curriculum witchcraft and sorcery." He also preaches, "The other area is the media. We need believers in the media. We need God taking over the media in our lives."

The Kenyan-based minister (who reportedly started his ministry by preaching against witchcraft) has given guest sermons in Wasilla on at least 10 occasions. Palin, meanwhile, left the church in 2002, though she continued to be listed as "a friend," as recently as June. Moreover Palin, as the Huffington Post reported, recently appeared at Wasilla Assembly of God where she framed the Iraq war and even a natural gas pipeline in Alaska as tasks from God.

Is it just me or does anybody else remember when the first "Bush" was in office, "We had huge losses as the "Savings & Loans" in Texas and elsewhere began failing.
Now with this 2nd "Bush" in office, we have huge losses again with Banks all over America.
With Clinton in office between the two "Bushes" we had a thriving economy.
What is it the "Bushes" know that makes for failures of large long thriving companies???
Is it just me or does anybody else see this pattern???

My Dad is one of those who is always preaching about how 'fair and balanced' Faux Noise is so I have sent him this and every other article on this subject I can find asking him if they have even covered it. Also I ask him how much he thinks Faux would be covering this story if it was O's pastor blessing him to be free of "witchcraft". Can you imagine? I don't know if it will make a difference, but I am hoping to open his eyes to the danger of getting your news from only one source.

Actually, the point of this isn't 100% about only just the "witchcraft" stuff & what a freak she is: THIS IS ABOUT PALIN'S CHUCH OPENLY ADVOCATING AND PRAYING FOR THE MERGING OF CHURCH AND STATE.

Has anyone heard of that little document called the Constitution? Separation of church and state -- ring a bell? That is one of the most important foundations of the United States.

Yet here we see Palin's pastor and associates urging the "infiltration" their religion into all aspects of American life, including schools and government. Then she gets up and participates with them praying for it. "Hello, is anyone listening?"

I met Sarah in 1984 when she was a journalism student looking for information about illegal aliens working on a high volt power lines in our area. She acts like a person who really cares about issues. She is also a person who "prays" whenever faced with challenges. We have a population that supports her religious convictions. That is why she became Mayor and then Governor. She thinks that because she has prayed about this, she has been "chosen" by a higher power to achieve great things! VERY DANGEROUS LADY

Unlike Barack Obama who distanced himself from & denounced a preacher for un-Christian/un-inclusive statements that preacher made when he wasn’t around, Sarah Palin participates completely, willfully - center stage - in a hands on, palms up, religious ceremony that equates Islam & Buddhism with “withcraft.” Her preacher clearly makes this statement before she gets up and recieves his blessing. She had every opportunity not to participate.

Right wing nut jobs will try to find decency in this “docile” example of faith, but make no mistake about it, she is not interested in the separartion of church & state. The entire theme of the sermon which led to her annointing ceremony is that this separation must end. It is only her religion and her concept of god with witch she is interested. Where’s Dorothy to throw a bucket of water on her?

Wow! I don't think you'd pray over someone about witchcraft unless there were some suspicion that they were possessed.

I'm begging the people of Salem, Massachusetts to welcome her into their town square.

I so very much want to believe that this video is true, but it doesn't look right at all. The audio is way off sync from the video, and what he is saying doesn't seem to jibe with his body movements. The other videos where we've seen Palin talk in this very church just don't seem to suffer from these anomalies, or at least not as starkly.

Funny religion is one thing. Infidelity is quite another. I wonder how this is going to go over if it's true? http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/2008/09/24/enquirer-reveals-sarah-palins-alleged-lover/

This video has a big potential to stir up people's thoughts about Palin. Do we want a religious fanatic to be this country's leader? A religious fanatics or not, there are more of Palin beyond her religious side. I find it very useful for me to go to www.dailysource.org/palin to find out more about her. The are a lot of videos that basically tells a story of Palin's journey after she was mentioned as the VP candidate by McCain. Check it out for yourself!
