Johnny Depp is the main man at the Mouse House.

Depp has agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" pic and play Tonto in a bigscreen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger," both produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. He will also star as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's version of "Alice in Wonderland."

The roles come after Depp helped Disney earn a combined $2.6 billion at the box office with the three pics in the "Pirates" franchise, also produced by Bruckheimer.

"Alice in Wonderland," skedded for 2010, will be shot using 3-D and performance capture technology similar to that used for "Beowulf."

Tim Burton making Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp: epic win.
A fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie: epic fail.

Must have offered him more money than God.

Even though he has already said he would love to do another one, the money must be unbelievable. I'd be wiling to put it in the 60 to One Hundred million range. 25 million up front and probably another 35 to 75 million in the back end.

@LiberalBuzz: "another 35 to 75 million in the back end."

Dang, that's gotta hurt...

Hope the 4th is better than #2 and #3. What a mess. Poor scripts. Get back to what made the first one sooo good.

My sentiments exactly. #3 was the worst.

I thought the third one was pretty good, but both the sequels were overlong. Bill Nighy's Davy Jones darn near stole the series from Depp's Sparrow, I thought.

Now this is the best news I've heard all day!

I look forward to seeing his work again, he is brilliant!

At one point, Depp was supposed to play Heathcliffe in Wurthering Height with Jolie. What ever happen to that project. ?

I just love Depp - so are my nephews and nieces. It's a kick to bring them to the movies, I get to enjoy them, and we have good times. Regardless that adults don't enjoy the silliness, these kids have a great time. Have you ever hear children laughing and having such a great time ?

They actually enjoy these silly adventures and those ickky characters. I get to see them acting like children. I'd rather have them see Pirates movies, than those gun-trotting-foul-mouth movies. And, in they actually mimick the characters, and memorized the lines.

MNow, my 5-year-old nephew Barclay would say " Parlay" to his dad, when he is disciplined by his Dad. My brother would be shaking his head and hide his smile. I thought that way very interesting that Barclay would use the word "parlay" to get out of being disciplined.

the meantime, my brothers and sister-in-laws get the much needed break, and have time for themselves. It's not always that I get to see them and enjoy having them around, then dispatch them back to their mom and dad.

So bring it on - more Pirate movies !

Aye, strangerinthenight! I personally find the idea of todays younger set using lingo a tad more erudite than "dude" or "..jus' chillin'.." a nice thought (IMO) - my nephews spent an entire afternoon raptly watching documentaries on pirates and their colorful past on "The History Channel"..voluntarily, no less (that's a good thing, I think)..! ;) ...

ok he makes a good pirate. But it's getting old......I wish he would come down to earth and just play a real good spy thriller. He would make a perfect spy in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan or he would make a great neighbor and CIA agent of Bin Laden in Kuala Lumpur in a High Rise.....and naturally Bin Laden getting away again.....ha ha.....

NICE! I didn't know Burton was remaking Alice in Wonderland.

I only hope that when it comes out, I can scrape together enough dosh to actually go and see it.

Preferably in IMAX.

side note: my partner and I just spent $50 on a movie night (tix, small sodas and popcorn) Ouch!

I don't care if the movie stinks or not. I just like looking at Johnny! Oh Yeah!!!

Much like the disappointing sophomore and junior editions of "The Matrix," each of the pirate sequels were unfocused messes - - - that made tons of money. No surprise, we'll see a fourth. Okay, Johnny, grab the dough, but try to hang onto the last of your artistic dignity.

Seriously, he's done many movies you've probably never heard of. Check out The Libertine. You'll never look at Depp the same.
