Housing Secretary Steven Preston said Friday that Chicago would get tens of millions of dollars to help improve mixed-income public housing and to help ease the blow of the national mortgage crisis.
Preston appeared with Mayor Richard Daley to announce that Park Boulevard, a South Side mixed-income community formerly known as Stateway Gardens, won a $20 million Hope VI federal grant. Park Boulevard was among six communities nationwide that won the grant, designed to transform severely distressed public housing into mixed-income communities.
