Tina Fey returned to Saturday Night Live to reprise her widely hailed impersonation of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

The sketch mocks Palin's recent interview with CBS News' Katie Couric (played on SNL by Amy Poehler), touching on Palin's trip to New York and her comments about Russia and the financial bailout.

(See 5 other new SNL skits here)

FEY AS PALIN: "Like every American I'm speaking with, we're ill about this. We're saying, 'Hey, why bail out Fanny and Freddie and not me?' But ultimately what the bailout does is, help those that are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy to help...uh...it's gotta be all about job creation, too. Also, too, shoring up our economy and putting Fannie and Freddy back on the right track and so healthcare reform and reducing taxes and reigning in spending...'cause Barack Obama, y'know...has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans, also, having a dollar value meal at restaurants. That's gonna help. But one in five jobs being created today under the umbrella of job creation. That, you know...Also..."

Some more highlights:

POEHLER AS COURIC: "On foreign policy, I want to give you one more chance to explain your claim that you have foreign policy experience based on Alaska's proximity to Russia. What did you mean by that?"

FEY AS PALIN: "Well, Alaska and Russia are only separated by a narrow maritime border. (using her hands to illustrate) You got Alaska here, this right here is water, and this is Russia. So, we keep an eye on them."

POEHLER AS COURIC: "And how do you do that exactly?"

FEY AS PALIN: "Every morning, when Alaskans wake up, one of the first things they do, is look outside to see if there are any Russians hanging around. And if there are, you gotta go up to them and ask, 'What are you doing here?' and if they can't give you a good reason, it's our responsibility to say, you know, 'Shoo! Get back over there!'

POEHLER AS COURIC: "Senator McCain attempted to shut down his political campaign this week in order to deal with the economic crisis. What's your opinion of this potential 700 billion dollar bailout?"

POEHLER AS COURIC: "What lessons have you learned from Iraq and how specifically, would you spread democracy abroad?"

FEY AS PALIN: "Specifically, we would make every effort possible to spread democracy abroad to those who want it."

POEHLER AS COURIC: "Yes, but specifically what would you do?"

FEY AS PALIN: "We're gonna promote freedom. Usher in democratic values and ideals. And fight terror-loving terrorists."

POEHLER AS COURIC: "But again, and not to belabor the point. One specific thing."

(several seconds of FEY and POEHLER staring at each other)

FEY AS PALIN: "Katie, I'd like to use one of my lifelines."

POEHLER AS COURIC: "I'm sorry?"

FEY AS PALIN: "I want to phone a friend."

POEHLER AS COURIC: "You don't have any lifelines."

FEY AS PALIN: "Well in that case I'm gonna just have to get back to you!"

My post about the first and genuine, flute-wielding woman candidate: me!

http://www.opednews.com/articles/Living-the-Skit-I-am-Tina-by-Kimberly-Wilder-081007-884.html

My name is Kimberly Wilder. I am a Green Party member who has run for office inside my party to try (unsuccessfully) to win the nomination for Lieutenant Governor, and in the regular election as a write-in for various offices, and on the ballot for Suffolk County Legislator.

I know that I am not as funny as Tina Fey. And, I hope that I am not much like Sarah Palin, since: I believe in women's reproductive rights; my energy plan does not include nuclear power or drilling in the ANWAR; and I believe in non-violence so much I am against the War in Iraq and the War in Afghanistan. So, I cannot claim too much similarity to either woman.

Though, when Tina Fey puts on her Sarah Palin persona, somehow, there I am in the middle of things. (rest of the story at OpEd news)

See the original cut from Palin Couric video - real palin couric interview and the SNL Palin Couric video - saturday night live palin couric video. I hadn't looked at both and thought SNL was too harsh but after seeing this, I think they were spot on. http://specialreport.com/saturday-night-live-palin-couric-video/

omg, she's turning into Dan Quayle. No wonder McCain is keeping her on a short leash... sadly the actual interviews were pretty painful to watch.

If you enjoy Palin-related humor, you might want to check out the music track "Redheaded Sasquatch For Jesus" which uses samples of Sarah Palin's speech to the Wasilla Assembly of God, backed by tasty hip hop beats.

Tina is just unbelievably funny! I was laughing my lungs out with her witty, charming, carefree portrayal of Sarah. The dumbfounded look on "Couric" was just as hilarious. Rock on SNL!!

Sure everyone knows...

It's clear that this whole "Bailout" episode is a demented plot to prey on the easy programmability of the American People, in that the bush administration proclaims to the entire world that the America is on the brink of finanical ruin ( Treasonous offense for a President IMO ), then asks Congress to immediately handover $700 billion of tax payer money no questions asked... ( Impeachable offense # 2 IMO ) knowing full well it would enrage almost the entire population. Thus daring congress to vote in support of the bill and risk losing their local election or not supporting the bailout and run the risk of being blamed for the market collapse. Then majority of republicans vote against the bailout bill even as the republican president, McCain, Palin and others demanding the bill get passed..... Hummmmm....

WHAT I SEE IS THE REPUBLICANS ARE WILLING TO DESTROY THE COUNTRY IN ORDER TO WIN AN ELECTION....

This ad proves the SHAMEFUL STRATEGY THE REPUBLICANS ARE ENGAGED IN!

Firing Squad!!! These A$$ Holes...

CNN showed the skit and Palin's original statements while their commentators were laughing at Palin. Bad move. The SNL skit is funny, but commentators should not be laughing at the VP candidate. Making fun of her on SNL is one thing, but laughing at her on CNN is inappropriate and will backfire. Main Stream Media does Obama and our party a disservice when they do exactly what our Repub opponents claim the liberal media does– biased reporting.

They should have shown the skit, pointed out that SNL used Palin’s own words to show her ineptitude, and moved on. When MSM pundits laugh at her, they help the GOP win the culture war. The story becomes how bad the media is to the candidate, instead of how underperforming the candidate is.

I think that laughing at this is the most polite response they could give.

After watching this Saturday night, actualy looking forward to it all week, I hadn't realized until yesterday that Tina Fey used Palin's exact words to mock her. It sound so out there that I thought she had made it up. My God, this Palin woman is a self-parody!

In these tough times, thank goodness Tina Fey is making us laugh. Without a little laughter, we will all go crazy.
