AP Reported this morning on the damage the failed bailout bill has done to John McCain's campaign:
Republican John McCain has maneuvered himself into a political dead end and has five weeks to find his way out.

Last Wednesday, McCain suspended his presidential campaign to insert himself into a $700 billion effort to rescue America's crumbling financial structure. In so doing, he tied himself far more tightly to the bill than did his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama.

See below for the "Real Time Electoral Vote Predictor" that shows how badly the recent economic news is affecting John McCain's campaign. Click here to link to the map and the electoral vote predictor.

I see they want t raise the FDIC limit to 250K. Isn't that a bit like closing the barn door after the horse is gone?

What do people do that seemingly have already lost their money.

No one has lost money in a bank failure, which is what the FDIC insurance is for.

This is raising the insured deposit amount to account for 30 years of inflation.

I can see that. It makes sense. What about those who had more than 100,000 in one of the banks that foreclosed?

Well MissStorm, aren;t you a wtch according to your own first post from five days ago?

Before everyone gets their wacko panties in a bunch... If you have never gone to a church (and I mean actively, not just on a WITCH hunt) like this or studied (and I dont mean skim) the KJV Bible, then I think you need to keep your ignorance of what you do not know driven by your fear of what you do not understand...out of it. FYI: The KJV Bible specially states that manipulation is a form of witchcraft. Imagine... Washington without manipulation...LOL

Um...you realize that King James had zero Aramaic or Hebrew scholars in his court, and they just made an English translation of a Greek Bible they happened to have lying around, right? See, it turns out that many times the word that the King's translators put down as "witch" actually meant "poisoner." That's kind of a big difference, of course we shouldn't let poisoners run around free.

What does any of this have to do with economic policy?

It seems to be an unknown either way. The idea of any politician of any party playing with 700 billion dollars of our money on the stock market, appears to be a bigger gamble.

Can't we just all take our 2,300 dollars every American has to donate to this bailout and go to Las Vegas?

Someone is bound to win.

it's not the dow that's the problem, yet. it's the credit market that's stuck. the banks cant lend money because they have too much bad debt from the housing industry, because of sub-prime mortgages. they need the money to buy the debt, so banks will be free to lend more money, especially to small businesses , who may use short-term credit to make payroll. if they cant make payroll people start losing jobs. if people dont have jobs, we get bored and beat each other up. ana rchy will rule.

The Dow represents 30 stocks.

The bailout isn't about the stock market.

It's about the credit markets, which are frozen.

Without credit, the US economy grinds to a halt.

If anyone is looking for a good laugh, watch the TMP video of the McCain camp heralding McCain's great leadership in the passage of the rescue bill. It is super funny.

All they needed was the Mission Accomplished banner. LOL

So funny. Especially McCain's attempt at sarcasm in Ohio. I have never seen so much egg on one face, have you?

Good stuff.

Actually, the acronym that matters is TARP, which I think is legislatorese for "Troubled Assets Recovery Plan." That's what's in the "bill" (also aptly named, since it will be mailed with a demand for payment to every non-investment-banker taxpayer in the nation.) A TARP is what you toss over a pile of junk to hide it from public view. Or, if you happen to be in the path of a hurricane or tornado, it's the cheap blue plastic you nail down over the spot where the roof used to be, while you wait, and wait, and wait, for the insurance adjuster to come, and then wait some more when they refuse to acknowledge that it was damage covered by your policy. We wage slaves down here at the bottom of the pyramid scheme are about to get TARPed up the wa-zoo.
Meanwhile, back in Iraq,, or was it Afghanistan...

Our Western economy is now a collection of innumerable scattered eggshells and all of the insane King George’s scoundrels can never put *their* failed humpty dumpty financial market back together again.

We simply must start over with a new and sufficiently regulated market after allowing current financial markets’ self-corrections to a less lucrative market returns or failures through additional bank collapses, which might lead to what some fiscal prognosticators are calling the Second Great Depression.

Our current financial crisis illustrates the adages of ‘you don’t get something for nothing’ (no free lunch) and the truism that ‘for everything good in life there is an associated bad’ (all good things inherently cause some harm, often outweighing the perceived good).
The bailout is giving greed ‘something for nothing’ and although ‘good’ for reckless speculators, we honest taxpayers are ‘harmed.’

I am firmly against the currently structured bailout (not a rescue) plan.
I suffered marked losses of my family savings on Black Monday, October 19, 1987. I learned my financial market lessons then; once burnt but not twice, and perhaps others will now learn their lessons.

Hey Hufferton, I learned the same thing, fortunately, just BEFORE the tech bubble burst. I am sorry for your financial loss, and this bailout must hit those who took a hit really hard. I don't blame you. I don't know how I feel about the bailout, but suspect it will only delay our pain.

I personally think this economic chaos is the great global market shifting. Until we pull up those countries who pay their worker pennies on the dollar, the US will always have a hard time competing.

I really don't blame either side for their saying "Nay" to the bailout, there were some serious issues with a few of the stipulations. There is only one thing more scary than speculators on Wall St., that is the government gambling with 700 billion dollars of our money.
