Couric Palin

During their interview Monday, Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin what newspapers and magazines she read to inform her worldview before being tapped as John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate. And Tuesday on the "CBS Evening News," Palin's answer was revealed: "most of them," "all of 'em," and "any of 'em."

Palin would not, or could not, name a specific news source, saying only, "I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

Watch (discussion of media sources begins approximately 3:45 in):

TRANSCRIPT:

Katie Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious: what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?
Sarah Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.
KC: But, like, what ones specifically? I'm curious.
SP: All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years.
KC: Can you name a few?
SP: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

It is amazing how Palin can never quite answer a question. Is she dodging it or not quite cognizant of what is being asked exactly?

We should be talking about RELEVANT things. America we need an explanation for this report from the Guardian in the UK: "Revealed: oil-funded research in Palin's campaign against protection for polar bear". Please go The Guardian on-line and you'll find this. Pass it on! Why is the MSM not talking about it? THIS IS SIMPLY OUTRAGEOUS! One more reason to support the Obama-Biden ticket!

PLEASE READ AND SHARE: REPORT ABOUT SARAH PALIN FROM THE GUARDIAN (UK)

Too bad polar bears can't pay millions for lobbyists or buy so-called climate scientists to discredit reputable studies and promote their interests the way Exxon-Mobile does. Please donate to the Natural Resources Defense Council to help get endangered species protection for polar bears, stop the Repubs from drilling in the ANWR, and protect the thousands of species marine mammals and migratory sea birds that depend on critical habitat in Alaska for their very survival.

Sadly, Sarah Palin and her kind only feel that the earth is here for us to use at our pleasure . She apparently feels that God put moose here for her to shoot, right?

Who speaks for the animals? It's their Earth too!!!

I had so hoped Katie was going to ask:

When is your daughter's wedding scheduled? Are you delaying it until after the election so you can help with the details? Or maybe have the wedding in the White House? Or will it be this month to get the press off your back?

She doesn't support the morning after pill because she doesn't know how it works. PZ Myers did a nice blog over at Pharyngula about how it works. In fact it doesn't seem like she really supports any kind of contraception. What bothers me is she doesn't understand the the facts behind the policies she supports. How can you lead like that? And her comment the she doesn't think someone should end up in jail for an abortion, is total BS. If the practice is outlawed what would she propose the penalty be then? A stern talking to, having to peal potatoes for the Alaska National Guard, cleaning the wax out of McCain's ears? Please wake up America

She turned the question from how she stays informed into a defense of Alaska and her awareness of what's going on in D.C.

It is fine if that's how she thinks and campaigns, and fine if her base is satisfied with that type of response.

For thinking Americans concerned about the future of the nation and who might lead it, it would be helpful to know.

We haved 8 long years with a president who is horribly uninformed president with no initellectual curiosity and near total dependence for information on the psychophants who serve him, or the corporatists who maniplulate him. ENOUGH

Whether Palin intentionally did not answer the question, or could not answer the question does not matter to me. Once again she failed to provide information about her capacity for leadership, and further disqualified herself, in my estimation.

That's the thing about her, she only appeals to her base. I guess the McCain campaign thought if she did that, Grumpy Gus would get the swing voters.

Yes, McCain was stupid to think that Hillary supporters would vote for him just because he picked Sarah as his VP running mate. Palin is so contrary to what Dem women stand for.
However, Palin did re-invigorate the GOP's right-wing fundamental-Evangelical base. Many of them had been contemplating not voting out of protest due to McCain, who they dread, being on the Rep pres Ticket.

David Gregory just agreed with some NoShameMcCain lackey that what Palin reads is private and questions should be limited to things she's accomplished as Gov of Alaska, not trying to trip her up on what she might do as veep.
I don't live in Alaska, I don't care what their politics are. I do however want to know what people running for the two highest offices in America think they can do for Americans.

David Gregory is a disgrace and a joke. He relishes every opportunity to highlight and try to magnify what he perceives as Senator Obama's weaknesses or vulnerabilities. He lets everything regarding Senator McCain and his campaign slide with minimal critique.

The threshold for the blantant self interest voter is that magic $250K level for tax breaks and investments. He makes more than that, even without his wife who probably makes more as a partner in the international firm of Latham & Watkins.
He knows which side his bread is buttered (like most of the rest of those so called journalists on TV. He certainly looks cute in that cheerleader outfit though!

Haven't you heard? Asking Sarah what she reads is "Gotcha Politics"!!!! In fact, I think asking her any question about anything amounts to no less than a personal and very vicious attack. Leave her alone! After all, this isn't a beauty contest!

Personally, I would rather not know anyway. It might sour me on any of the tasteless periodicals I might have in common with poor, poor Sarah!!!

Any attempt by journalists to make members of the McCain campaign responsible for their utterances or their actions is regarded as gotcha journalism. This is the same mindset that is embodied by the Bushies and most of the gop. Members of the media are often too timid to place blame or to ask the right questions. And our so-called dem leaders have let the Bushies and Reaganauts get by with far too much over the years.

Yes, this time they, the GOPers, have stole hundreds of billions out of the cookie jar. So much for the GOP being fiscally conservative. Bill Clinton one the other hand was a fiscal conservative. on a related note, Wall St and the mega-Banks have proven to not be conservative with their investing either. So much for the neo-cons being conservative.

I know McCain is a big joker, but don't you think the joke should be over by now? Does he really want to destroy this woman who could have had a good future in politics in Alaska, but is now seen as many of us to be not even capable as Governor of Alaska. Unfortunately she was not politically aware enough to refuse the VP offer, but now her future career is down the tubes. McCain appears to be brutally cruel.

There are two scholls of thought for rhis

1.) Mytbe she's reading a conservative magazine that she didn't want publisized.

2.) She not a reader and doesn't keep hersef informed and therefore she was not able to express this to Katie. However, most people are missing the point. I would lay off of her experience queation and talk about her knowledgelessness of the broader issues.

She has a narrow mind of the world and therefore is not able to articulate her opinion. She's does well on what she knows. She's not ready for prime time issues. Give her another 2 years and she should come full circle. But right now we don't need on the job training...

Well, Katie, I read Highlights. I have learned sooo much from that. Like how to make crafts without using scissors, First Dude doesn't want me having scissors if he isn't around. They're sooo sharp. I also, like "Where's Putin" its the same as "Where's Waldo" put you try to find Russians rearing their heads in Alaskan airspace. My favorite book is "The Little Engine that Could". Everytime someone asks me why I'm qulified for the VP job I just say, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....

She was a journalism major. She can't name two magazines or newspapers? She can't articulate her sentances? She can't answer a question without patronizing the answer?
Her answers remind me of the the reponses found in dumb blond jokes.
I want a smart and savvy president and vice-president in office. I want someone smarter and savvier than me. Right now, the only two candidates running for office who are smarter and savvier than me are Obama and Biden.
