Sherri Bill Maher

Bill Maher appeared on "The View" Tuesday morning to promote his upcoming film, "Religulous," which comes out Friday. When Maher tried to debunk a basic tenet of Christianity, Sherri Shepherd, whose devout religious beliefs have provided fodder for the show before, asked, "When you did this movie, you talked to a lot of people about God — have you ever just talked to God, and asked God what does he think?"

When Maher asked Sherri if God ever answered her, and she said that he did, Maher said: "Well then we should call Bellevue." Bellevue is a New York hospital known for its psychiatric facilities.

You GO Bill!

Religiots just get pissed off when people pose a threat, the threat being facts that they have difficulty punching holes in.

Here's my opinion- The Religious have been evangelizing and preaching to bring people in for hundreds of years.

Why not let some of us with differing opinions have a chance to state our views without getting all worked up about it?

Answer: Because religion is so closely related to death and what happen afterwords. These folks are simply afraid of their own mortality...

No offense, really.

Hey, Bill. I can't wait for the movie to open tomorrow! Until then, I'll just have to watch this hilarious video over and over, featuring more Jesus 'impersonators':

From the clips I've seen, Bill's movie raises some good issues and asks some good questions. Bill however repeatedly displays that he is ignorant when it comes to religious beliefs and practices. He tries to get by on humor rather than information.

I feel Bill Mahr has the same choice to chose or not to chose God. Once he dies and he finds ot whether there is a God, no one but him and God will have the issue to deal with. But the wonderful thing about God (if you believe in himj) is that He give everyone the right to chose. Unlike some other religions out there that are brutal in its practices towards those that differ or believe otherwise. There is no choice on what to wear, eat, who to marry, equality and so on. So if I were a betting person, I would bet yes there is a God and if I lose I am just dead:) If I win I live forever. I think that is a good bet to make. Vs. there is no God and living in hell forever....

Once again. What if you bet on the wrong religion simply because of the one you were brought up believing in?

And no moral god would threaten with hell.

"I think that is a good bet to make. Vs. there is no God and living in hell forever...."

So, you believe out of fear. You are afraid of the consequence of not believing.

Out of all the reason of why TO believe in anything, believing something out of fear, is the worst and most perverse reason to.

I grew up in the inner-city and was raised Catholic and seen the good religion can do. I did know that at a young age that Catholicism wasn't for me but respect everyone's right to believe as they chose. I also know with total certainty that I'm a better man as a result of my religious upbringing. I believe it's given me a bigger heart and a more critical mind for what's right, fair, ethical and just. That's something that seems to lack in this world unfortunately. So according to Maher he considers my friends and family to be evil or victims of religion? I don't see it that way and neither do they. I like and admire Bill Maher. I think he's hillarious and quick-witted, but as most people have noticed he tends to over-identify, over-generalize and over-react. You look at history and you'll notice it's these traits which are dangerous not necessarily being religious as he claims.

If Bill Maher is so brilliant and correct, why hasn't he yet figured out that 9/11 had nothing to do with the Mulsim people but that demonizing them did? Over 1 million innocent Iraqi's are dead and 4.5 million have fled their home because of oil and politics. Maybe the next documentary he does can talk about the evils of a politically brainwashed public which somehow justifies the killing of innocent women and children for oil? I'd go see that one.

I watch Maher's show when I can ...I admire his courage. I agree with him quite often as a matter of fact. But when he mounts his anti-religious soapbox I absolutely tune him out. .Seems to me that Maher who is as zealous a questioner of others personal faith is in fact the same as the person who is so prideful of their personal religious choice as to denounce and denigrate anothers religion.
I caught the show last week that had Andrew Sullivan on as a panelist. Sullivan put it quite succinctly when Bill began to rant on religion, in his typical stereotyping caricatures, about other peoples beliefs. He called Maher a 'Religious Bigot'!!!....

i took an office job in a church, advertised in a local paper, and since i truly needed the work, i was happy to have it. it appeared to be all business.

but, i encountered nothing but trouble from onset. they would start each business meeting with a ritual participatory greeting BEFORE lowering their heads and praying along with the pastor. i would remain silent and not interfere. sometimes we were asked to join hands. hello - your one and only secular employee here, remember?

an office retreat at pastor's house for "relaxation" (as i was told) turned out to be religious songs, prayer, psychological tests, and reflection. when i objected, it was met with disgust. if i was treated poorly by parishioners (like chattel, actually) and i mentioned any of this to my supervisor it went nowhere. i had no one to turn to for grievances. i wanted to quit, but needed work.

well, this week they let ME go because of "not being a team player" and for being "a loner." gist is, i didn't join in their reindeer games. i just wanted to do the job i was hired to do and then go home.

i also was amazed at the two faced pastor - who turned on his religious face in a split second while behind scenes he was cold and calculating. hire a f ** 8 ** c ** k ** ing church member next time i told him when he let me go. felt
