Elisabeth Hasselbeck

"The View" heated up over politics again Wednesday morning, specifically around the subject of Sarah Palin's readiness to be President.

"She doesn't know anything about it!" Whoopi Goldberg said, which set off co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

"In terms of experience, she's actually been leading a microcosm of the United States of America," Elisabeth responded.

Things heated up even more after Elisabeth took a swipe at Joe Biden, prompting Barbara Walters to say, "Every single day you never ever say, maybe there's another point, so this is your chance....Tell us now why you think that Sarah Palin would make a very good President."

Elisabeth's response? "Tell me why Barack Obama is qualified to be President."

Watch as Elisabeth eventually puts together a list which includes "she has been in charge of the National Guard during a time of war":

From ABC, 10/1

Why do you folks so vehemently hate those with whom you disagree?
These posts are nothing more than one personal, vicious, ad hominem attack after another.
These comments in of themselves make a mockery of your own self professed superiority over those you vilify. The women here ought to be most ashamed of all. What a disgrace.

Explain to me why women ought to be ashamed for questioning Gov. Palin's qualifications? This country faces serious issues and it's imperative to question the qualifications of our potential leaders. The burden is on the candidates to prove that they are fit for office. How dare you imply that women should support Palin because of her gender? I would love to support a woman, believe me. I blame McCain for picking the wrong one.

I respect anyone with the integrity to honestly evaluate all the candidates and make an informed decision.I don't respect this:

"Palin was chosen for her genitalia and her controlable mind."

"Hasselbeck is woefully ignorant. Aren't there any smart conservatives, or is that an oxymoron?"

"How did that dimwit get this job?"

"If you hate Elisabeth as much as I do and would like her OFF The View, sign this petition:"

I didn't suggest you support Palin or Hasselbeck. I suggested you treat them with the respect any human being ought to be entitled to in a civilized society. And, as a man, I'm more than a little surprised to learn that the most vicious and degrading attacks and insults come from other women. Just as they did during the primaries. HRC was subjected to the same humiliating attacks and by fellow female democrats. Sickening.

This must be a LIB post not only do you want to stiffle the voice of conservatism on The View (the ratio is already 4:1). I have posted two comments that were questioning the judgement and character of your god Obama and neither was admitted...hmmmm...Is that your hopes when you take power of the White House, Senate and House to completely silent the voices of conservatism?

Man, if only it was that perfect of a world. The only way to get you people to shut your mouths is hold your head underwater till you pass out. What plane of reality do you people live on. Your conservative ilk are the reason for all our troubles these days. You had almost complete control of our Govermant for 6 years. And look were it got us. To bad your kind of stupidity isn't bred out through evolution. (ie. the kid who chokes on marbles doesn't grow up to have a kid who chokes on marbles.) Oh, but I'm sure evolution is some kind of witchcraft to you.

Open wide, Proudpalinsupporter, I want to shove something down your stupid throat to silence you as you and your party have done to this country for the past 8 years...and I will relish every minute of it. Hope it hurts too...almost as much as the people you have killed and maimed in Iraq and New Orleans.

It would be hard to name a more atypical state than Alaska. Hasselbeck is woefully ignorant. Aren't there any smart conservatives, or is that an oxymoron?

Alaska is a "microcosm of America"? I can't believe Elizabeth said that with a straight face. She acts like she is on Karl Rove's payroll.

Is she a smart woman? Absolutely, but she's the type of woman who hasn't had a whole lot of diverse life experience like Whoopi, who was homeless at one point. Notice that Elizabeth doesn't draw on her own life experience when she talks about politics. Her talking points are composed of political theory but rarely practice.

She's a young woman who married a rich man and never had to scrub floors for a living so she doesn't see the effects of Republican socio-economic policies on the daily lives of the poor. She is limited in her perspective but smart enough to logically articulate those conservative positions based on one faulty premise after another.

This is the problem with America - the fact that people are even having debates about if Sarah Palin is qualified or not. She's not qualified. Period. If last few interviews she gave have not convinced most people that she's not, or even needed the VP debate to decide, nothing will. People who back McCain/Palin have every right to do so, but this Republican ticket clearly is not putting the country first. Clearly America as we know are heading in the wrong direction. No matter how many Obamas we have, the country won't change.

The real but sad and tragic problem is that there are many Sarah Palins in America who vote in this election.

I think the View needs to have an ally for Elizabeth. Being picked on day after day for her "views" is not fair. Apparently she's strong to stand up to these other women who oppose her, but I think it would be a less stressful show to watch if I knew she wasn't alone in her battle to share her views. I'm NOT a republican in the least bit, but she makes very valid points that those other halfwits address them like a politician would...with avoidance and misdirection. Her co-workers are unyielding in their opinions and often are just as emotional as her. The problem is, it's a liberal minded show where the hosts, aside from her, are all very much to the left. So is the audience. No wonder she's picked on. There's no one else that shares her VIEWS. Is this show about THE ONE VIEW of the liberal, or is it's premise really about Views with an S?

If anything, she should be paid the big bucks because she's what keeps the show going. If it weren't for her, the other ladies would have NOTHING to say other than a bunch of mindless banter.

This is the problem I have with conservatives. They will never, ever admit when they're wrong. Seriously, Elizabeth. Think about what you are saying. If Sarah Palin was a man, her career would be over.

As a woman, and a mother of two daughters, I am insulted by the nomination of Sarah Palin. The GOP supposedly opposes Affirmative Action. First of all, if this isn't a shining example of hiring someone simply for their gender and the benefits that may be gained from it, I don't know what is. Second, out of a pool of highly qualified conservative females in this country, this is the best that McCain could do? To me, this only confirms what I suspected all along. He doesn't think much of women in the first place.

I would hope that if my daughters receive an "A" on a paper or a presentation, it's because they deserved it, not because they simply completed their homework and because they didn't cry in front of their class.

Ms. Palin is clearly judged by very different standards than her male counterpart and that is sexist in itself. It's beyond me how Elizabeth Hasselbeck can defend this woman's qualifications with a straight face.

Before voting, people need to look at the qualifications of them all. Obama with his 176 days as being a voting member of the Senate. Between Obama and Biden, Biden is more qualified to lead this country. Between McCain and Palin, McCain is more qualified to lead this country. Do you vote for a candidate who doesn't have the experience and if something happens to him (God forbid) the most qualified person gets to run the country OR do you vote for the man who is most qualified to do the job and hope that (God forbid) nothing happens to allow Palin to run it. We are in a lose/lose situation, so you decide which is the less risky-McCain/Palin. Hasselbeck is very conservative, and there's nothing wrong with that. Does that make her a bad person or an idiot? No. For those that continue to put her down, it's because they can't live up to her standards. So, instead, they'll berate her and call her names. You know, games that little kids play. I am old enough to remember that Whoopi said if George HW Bush won president, she'd leave the country-so why's she still here? I also saw on the internet where Susan Saradon said if McCain won, she was leaving the country. Do these people think we really care? I've quit watching the view. It's their view or shut up is the way I see the show lately. Their ratings are down. Go figure!

You are woefully wrong, Mybabies. Hasselbitch adds nothing to this show, she is an ignorant of Hannity and fox News. Picked on? If she had anything valid or logical to say, she might be worth listening to, but she is just a parrot for the Neocon agenda. She should be fired, but Bill Getty (producer) is also a Repuke.

She didn't "fumble". She was interrupted constantly. Let the woman talk!! Loudmouth Joy always gets to say what she wants. I agree that Elisabeth needs someone to back her up when she speaks her mind. Don't hate her just because she is cute and bubbly. That show needs all the excitement it can get. Without her, that program would be just a bunch of old, overweight, bitter women drinking coffee and discussing the latest news. The View is a program targeted towards women and without her the show would be blah. Just because she doesn't agree with the liberals on the show doesn't mean she is an idiot or stupid, it simply means that she is sticking to her guns and not backing down. Sounds like to me the ones putting down Palin and Elisabeth are jealous that these women are successful. McCain/Palin '08 Nobama '08

What a shame. Elizabeth has no clue that Sarah Palin has not done anything with the National Guard in Alaska EVER.

She needs to leave The View and join FoxNews where she can worship Sean Hannity all day long.

She is the Alaska National Guard Commander and has visited them in the middle east.

foreign deployments of Guard units comes under the regular U.S. military chain of command...not the governor. Therole of the governor is to use the Guard to help the citizens of a state. Palin does not oversee Guard members federalized for service in Iraq. Nor have them been trained for their duties in Iraq by Palin....but by the Army or Air Force. So all their missions were not pins for her lapel.
Duties National Guards are natural disasters. During Palin's 21 months in office, there has been one declared disaster: widespread flooding in June and July this year. Palin quickly signed a disaster declaration, officials said. The Guard's role was limited to providing two water tanks and 30,000 sandbags to local authorities.

It always warms my heart when I see the spirit of free speech, inclusiveness, tolerance and open mindedness from the left. I can understand that being the only conservative counter-point on the program, she must annoy you. I just have one question.... if your petition to shut her up and/or have her fired fails to do the job, would you consider violence?

It is her sarcastic, disrespectful mannerism. It isn't her views, unless it is her hate spreading views. Her pointing, yelling, constant interruptions of cohosts, guest, and her own boss is rude. I always find it so ironic to see the self proclaimed family values party defend this type of behavior. It is evident in more and more republican spokespersons: Rush, Bill O, Hannity, Ann C.

Perhaps you are right, Yama, we shouldn't let our dislike of her views lead to censorship of the one conservative voice on The View. However, her particular voice is grating to most viewers and I think a better representative of the right could (and should) be found. The "debates" on The View often devolve into screaming matches, which only plays into the stereotype of catfighting, hysterical women.

Other than that, I think her points are often misguided, as with the point that Alaska represents the rest of the USA. I have lived in Alaska in a town with 3,000 people, and I can assure you, it is no representation of my native California. It is not nearly as diverse, for starters, and the issues the Lower 48 face are vastly different in degree and type from those which face the average Alaskan.

Darn I missed the show. Elizabeth actually takes it personal when somone says anything about Bush, McCain, or Sarah. I just don't get it. Of course she is rich and doesn't have to worry about not having food, a home, a car, etf. Well maybe she has to worry about her job. So confrontational. I didn't see her on that Survival show, was she knocked off early? Linda

4 out of 5 women against Palin is very encouraging. American women have come to realize what McCain's choice of Palin for VP running mate really is . A cheap trick to get the female vote. Sorry, it's not working. Women are turing away from Palin as fast as they can.
