NR's Rich Lowry: Palin "Sent Little Starbursts Through The Screen"

I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, she's got it.

What is the purpose of winking durring a debate? My take on palin is that she is phony rather than "folksy". Her doggonnits and gosh darns other home spun phrases are annoying enough and magnified more by her voice and accent. She has some experience in television from her days as a sports broadcaster in Alaska. As a result she has gained some camera presence, timing, etc. She'll do anything to advance her career, even stooping so low as to kiss the old man's a$$ repeatedly. She is truly allowing herself to be p*mped. As its said in the business, she's on the track. She knows how to play to the conservative base, so everytime she says something stupid in an interview, she'll blame "the mainstream media" on the stump. In all I find nothing compelling about this woman except her physical attractiveness, but hey i'm a sexist.

The reichwing guys are mostly the creepy boys who in high school couldn't get girls, couldn't get on the team, into the fraternities later (unless daddy had a lotta money and was already a member). They never got over that. Now they have some power, or some proximity to power and on occasion it gets them a girl. Yay.

The way she was intently and constantly staring at the camera with that joker-like intractable smile, I thought she was going to crawl out of my TV set like the spectral girl in "The Ring" movie -- only not as charming. Sparkles, my a$$, that was probably the glare from her bleached teeth. She could probably strain krill.
