Independent voters are starting to swing behind Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who continue to benefit from economic turmoil and the public response to their debate performances, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

The survey, conducted over the weekend, was full of good news for the Democratic ticket. Sen. Obama increased his advantage over John McCain when voters were asked which one they prefer to handle economic issues, as a growing percentage of voters said that was their top concern heading into the election. More voters said they're "more reassured" by how Sen. Obama was responding to the financial crisis than by Sen. McCain.

If we allow for the Bradley race factor, this election is extremely close and with 4 weeks left (a lifetime in compressed political time) we should take nothing for granted and continue hitting hard and stay on offense.

But I definitely would rather be us than them.

Obama/Biden

This race is not as close as the media would like you to believe. Dems have registered more voters than the Reps and those new voters will show up to the polls this time! Obama will win in a blowout as the polls are trending in his direction and a few polls have him up to 53%..Not good for grandpa...

When has the young-people factor ever played the way the dems want it too?

this race can be close becasue of one major factor.

Obama team registered young voters. Mccain 's aim to discourage young voters with a lot of trash so they will give up and not turn out to vote.

when I was young I listen to the local and national candidates. At time, they said things that made me feel it was a waste of my time. Looking at the data of people returning to vote, it is clear I was not the only one who dropped out for awhile.

Again, make sure you keep reminding the young voter it is very important they turn out to vote no matter who they are voting for. They have a major say which way they want this nation to go. I am older but I think it is their time to have a say. It will prove just how much our taxes on education has been a good investment and do we have in this country a chance to become a united states.

But will new voters have their ballots invalidated with technicalities? Will long time voters fall prey to "caging" and "exact match" eliminations?

RFK Jr says yes: http://www.truthout.org/article/rfk-jr-and-mike-papantonio-is-your-vote-safe

All the polls mean nothing if Obama's votes are discarded. Spread the word that this requires some spending on voter education advertising. Dems can afford it and should partner up with League of Women Voters. Should even challenge Repubs to kick in bucks for it.

Post this info everywhere - not much time left. Early voters among college students may have already lost out due to first time voter requirements....

I'm nervous. The most recent Zogby poll shows McCain leading in most of the "toss-up" states.

I'm afraid the dems are over-confident...once again...

Dems like "off the table" Pelosi have soured the independents on the democrat brand. :(

the propaganda is only making zogby wealthy. Ask who is paying him to take this so call poll?

Polls have been since the 1800's. why to direct the uneducated into a certain direction since they were not educated to think for themselves the way they should vote.. Being nervous is healthy if it is used to take action, not to pass on personal fears to all who can read.

young people want to read that mature votes know who they believe will stand up for a better way and support Obama who wants more transparency. Palin wants to hide this investigation under it has become to political. H#LL Bells, she is a politician not a beautician so the investigation will not be transparent. In other words a close door action is the beginning to this republican party so do not expect it to change after the vote to these people being a transparent government under Palin/Mccain.

I live in Texas and if anyone had bothered to look at Bush's resume - left Texas in debt, screwed up every business he ever ran - resumes do count
Obama:
Occidental College - Two years.
Columbia University - B.A. political science with a
specialization in international relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

& Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in history and B.A. in
political science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 out of 899
(meaning that, like George Bush, McCain was at the bottom of his class)

Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in journalism

Even if the McCain Palin gets all messed up in their own dirt and starts trying to throw this at Obama and Biden the Obama side still wins, because MC and SP just have nothing to grasp or hold on but the stink of their own nasty s"""!

Sorry to be repetitive, but I'll be posting this occasionally over the next couple of days.

MO deadline is 10/8 (Wed.).¨
Although I have seen recent polls that have O up by one to three points, most news sources still have it leaning McCain.¨¨

Missouri is a bellwether state. It has voted for the winner in every U.S. Presidential election beginning in 1904 except in 1956. The state has 11 electoral votes.¨¨

Obama can win without it, but I am so hoping he takes it. If you live in Missouri or know someone there, PLEASE GOTV!

I hope you're right, Friend, but it has been my contention all along that the folks who are running the Polls, and the MSM who is publishing them, are both part of keeping Mac close enough so that when the votes are counted and posted, a McCain win will seem plausible. I believe that 'Polls' in all fifty states could show an Obama/Biden Win is certain, but still be given to Mac through the same process that gave us Bush in 2000 and 2004.

So, what is next? Planning on how to react to something as evil as that occurrence? Take to the Streets? How about asking the Supreme Court? Or asking Johnny Mac to step down because he already knows he lost?

I hope we do the right thing, because its certain that the Republicans haven't! God, or whomever, help us!

I have started talking to young people to vote. It is their future they will be voting for. If we start demand jobs to support ourselves we would not be fighting. We transferred all our jobs of our very well being to other countries. These products are not safe, to me that is a ntional security. We as Americans can only demand change through our power of the purse.

We can not let our media control our political process in a total unbalanced way. If theownership of (r) or (d) were close to equal should not be such a major problem.

In the rural area only the rush limbaugh, ann coulton, plus other voices are heard.

Seriously.. Yesterday in the news there was a story about a man from Cali who shot himself and his family because of this Economic crisis. He had an MBA, clearly eligible to work but for several months e could not find work. Not to mention the 90 year old lady who shot herself because she was losing her house. SOOO. How many more will have to do this before McCain starts to talk to the people about the Economy? You think people will fall over bridges and shoot themselves because of Obama's connections to Ayer and rev Wright? A wide margin of people do not care about the smears. That is precisely why Obama is leading on the polls.

Well, we need to start thinking about how we're going to act when Johnny Mac and Miss Sarah "Take" the '08 election. Here's a creditable web site that shows how they're planning a 51.2% / 3 Electoral Vote "McCain-Palin Victory" on November 4, 2008.

And, how come there's no Election Fraud thread on HuffPo? Don't we know that Election Fraud is inevitable this year, too? Virtually nothing has been done about this since 2004! This time, though, and thanks to the RNC and Diebold, the frickin' foreigners have learned how to out game the Republicans, so we're going to let a foreign 'power' determine our Presidential Election!

Why this paranoia? Do you actually believe they can steal an election that is not close? Do you actually believe the people will not be out in the streets the next day if they do so? Do you actually believe the armed forces would support them? Let's show a little respect for the American voter. The loonies will always back those filled with hatred, but they are not a majority.

538 has the electoral projection at 343.8 to 194.2, giving Obama 88.5% odds to win the election. The odds of Obama racking up at least 375 EVs (a landslide) are almost three times the odds of McCain winning the election at all.

Nothing economic or character-based is going to shift the dynamics in McCain's favor. The only way that Obama can realistically fall off his pedestal by election day is if a military situation emerges that has little to do with the financial crisis.

It's the same thing that happened in the primaries: Obama ran a consistently focused and competent campaign while his opponents did not. This wasn't about the issues. This was about leadership style, and even white men (tied!) are now coming to the conclusion that Obama is the steady hand in uncertain times.
