I Like ItI Don’t Like It

John McCain is out with a post-debate ad that, perhaps in a sign of how the affair went, doesn't even mention last night's affair.

Titled "Folks," the McCain spot instead attacks Barack Obama for being "extreme" - "the Senate's most liberal member" - and seeking to lie about it.

What's remarkable here is how stale this charge truly is. Obama has been fielding questions on the National Journal's ratings since they came out in late January 2008. And he's been right in pointing out the survey's inherent flaws (a weighted sampling of bills, a failure to take into account of missed votes, etc...).

That McCain would hope to re-litigate the issue is a sign that even his campaign feels it has yet to land an effective punch on the opposition.

The ad, the campaign says, will be televised nationally.

Frankly I can't see how _anyone_ would think this ad helps McCain, even among his base. The repetition of Obama telling us that the McCain campaign is lying merely helps _everyone_ think about the charge! Some people are going to say to themselves; Obama's probably right...

That is a truly terrible ad. It isn't dishonest like some others, it just misses the mark. Why is it not presidential for Obama to say "folks are lying"? He isn't saying he is lying himself; he's accusing others, and that is not disproven in any way. That ad shows that McCain's campaign has lost its bearings. Heck, the wheels are coming off!

Why do they always make Obama darker in the videos?

I assume that's a rhetorical question.

The most liberal, "How extreme!".

Who makes this crap? This ad sounds more like someone making a parody of a McCain ad than a real McCain ad.

Why do they spend their money on ads that reinforce Obama... i think it is great that he repeats the fact that McCain is lying

McCain campaign likes to get free media. They telegraph a punch, then wait to see if the media gives them free play. This gives McCain the opportunity to see if the message will stick. Sometimes they use such an announcement just to get through one news cycle. The commentators express shock and analysts pontificate about the audience's reaction, etc. but no air tme is bought. They get free media.

so pathetic. They have NOTHING on Barack.

McCain, time to face facts buddy. You're not going to win. Better to spend the rest of the campaign talking about positive things, not smearing, so you can rescue some shred of your honor and character.

This ad SUCKS!!! It is ineffective and does nothing to advance his cause. Everyone knows obama is liberal, that is not what they care about....in fact that MIGHT help as the people know that Liberals build good economies!!

This is a really weak ad.

Not to mention that the National Journal regularly publishes that the Democratic candidate is the #1 most liberal senator in congress. No matter who it is or what their policy positions are. Been there. Done that.

This is a cute ad. I guess liberal is still a bad word with some people. I wish Obama would run an ad that went.

"DID YOU KNOW JOHN MCCAIN IS A REPUBLICAN? HOW DISGRACEFUL." Haha.

Obama ad:

Barack Obama was rated the most liberal member of the Senate.

John McCain's rating? He wasn't rated, Senator McCain missed over 50% of the votes in the Senate, leaving him unable to be rated.

John McCain: Not there when you need him.
