Monkey

CBS reports:

As the crowd cheered at a Sarah Palin rally this morning in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a man in the audience grinned as he held up a stuffed monkey doll with a Barack Obama bumper sticker wrapped across its forehead.

After Palin finished her remarks this morning, the man holding the stuffed monkey seemed to notice that a video camera was pointed at him, at which point he removed the Obama sticker from the doll's head and crumpling it up in his hand. He then handed the doll to a young boy who was watching the rally from his father's shoulders. The boy's parents later told CBS News that they weren't acquainted with the man who gave their son the stuffed monkey.

But in this video, the man is clearly proud of his work:

Please email your Republican Senators - especially the Leader, Mitch McDaniels - and demand that they put a stop to this BS.

The McCain campaign is treading in dangerous territory to encourage this kind of overt racism.

Not only are the candidates increasing the level of danger for themselves and their opponents, but these idiots who get their face on film are increasing the level of danger they will face in their life. Someone, soon, is going to recognize this old man and his life will never be the same.

Racism and anger are a very bad mix and lead to violence. This must stop !

Seems like racists and the horribly misinformed comprise the McCain base nowadays. Really sad. Really really sad.

What a shame. McCain/Palin has set this country back another 400 years in just 30 days. The meanness of those people going into their rally was sickening. And they all had those SICKENING Palin smiles on their face. It looked like they had all been programmed to react in that way. And to think they thought they were saying and doing the right thing.

If this is the kind of America McCain and Palin wants, then we have to fight doubly hard to stop them. We do not need to progress BACKWARDS. And if the GOP is not trying to move FORWARD, then they are toast. Americans will vote more for Obama now then before after looking at this crap. Thanks Palin for sending us a few more votes.

I completely disagree. This is to be expected in an election of the first black President. Not condoned...just expected. This is the last gasp of the grip of racism on the majority. After Obama is elected we WILL see a noticeable difference in race relations in this country...because those who persist in their racist views will no longer be tolerated. This is called "hitting bottom" and it is the only way to purge the system of the perpetrators and enablers of racist dogma.

That's rather idealistic. But nice. I hope that it will really play out like that.

Wow. Kind of ironic one of their mantras are "get a job." Probably half of them are out of work because their beloved McCain and his pals (I include Clinton here) have been pushing policies that have been exporting their jobs overseas for years. Especially in Johnstown. Talk about bitter and clinging...

Obama will prove them all wrong, but it won't matter. Most true racists/supremacists will cling to these beliefs until they die. They are indoctrinated from an early age. For example, did you see the young boy in tow in that video? What is he to think and what will his subsequent view on this be? You can only guess. These people exist in every country in the world and will hopefully disappear through evolution. If we keep breeding more of them we'll end up with the Idiocracy.

Congratulations to McCain/Palin, in their efforts to distract the public from the real issues that should be addressed to add on an additional issue of racism. I guess they really are different from Bush. He only managed to bring our country into a war with a plan and an economic crisis.

Good job McCain/Palin. We didn't have enough issues to deal with, thanks for bringing us one more. Now please go back to Arizona and Alaska so we can start to clean up your mess.

Not to be too blunt but it's going to take a few more years for people like this to just die off! Most people under 50 in this country have a more color-blind attitude. One day soon these racists will be dead and gone and we'll be able to get to the task of making the world a better place for everyone instead of promoting division and racism!

I tell ya - sometimes the easiest way to deal with ignorance on that level is to say: Shame on You! Years of protesting, I have found that chanting "shame on you" over and over again can really make an impact. It's almost as if you become a parent shaming them into reality.
There were a few McCain supporters with big signs leering at us as we waited in a mile long line (literally) to enter a recent Obama Rally. As we walked past them, some folks exchanged words with them, I just simply stated, "Shame on You, you know we can't afford McCain, shame on you, shame on you.." I know I hit a nerve.

unfortunately r.a.c.i.s.t.s. have no shame; so while it is admirable that you dared to speak out against such indiginities, the sad reality is that they really could give a flying F*CK about your shame-chiding

I think the man with th Curious George doll felt shame. That's why he quickly handed off the doll or a child who happened to be nearby.

Those people needed more than a little shame to bring them out of their induced coma of racism. They need some other kind of intervention, like a lightning strike of awareness to kick start their normal brain patterns into gear again. They are so out of it.

What is really scary is that no one at the door (security, officials) seemed bothered enough to take it off him. It speaks volumes for the McCain campaign.

How blissful the ignorant are.
How sad that our country produces so many.
How proud McCain must be to attract most all of them to his lame campaign.

When I went out with my dog this morning I found my Obama/Biden yard sign ripped out of the ground and thrown across the yard. I started looking at my house in panick wondering if they'd egged it or spray painted hatred or something. Isn't it nice to see that their hatred is spreading into our very lives so that someone felt they HAD THE RIGHT TO STEP ONTO MY PROPERTY AND VIOLATE MY RIGHTS!
HOW DARE THEY!? Should I expect worse!? If I have any damage from their hate spreading I'm sending them the bill!
