Obama Cuts Ad For Oregon Senate Candidate

Barack Obama is putting his coattails to use, cutting an ad for Democratic challenger Jeff Merkley that touts the Senate hopeful as an agent of change just like him.

"Jeff will put fairness back in the system and strengthen our economy by cutting taxes for the middle class, not corporations who ship our jobs overseas," Obama says. "With Jeff Merkley in the U.S. Senate we can get our country back."

The Oregon Senate race -- one of the closest in the country -- is, in many ways, shaping up to be a contest over which candidate can associate himself more with the Democratic nominee. Gordon Smith, the Republican incumbent, has twice put out ads highlighting the work he has done with Obama. And this is the second time that Merkley has been tied to the Illinois Democrat in a media spot. Earlier, the League of Conservation Voters asked voters to give Obama the "team he needs" and vote for Merkley for Senate.
