WASHINGTON — Sen. Joe Lieberman on Friday skirted a question on whether vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is ready from day one to be president, saying "thank God" she won't have to be.

Lieberman, I-Conn., who has helped prep the Alaska governor on foreign policy issues, said his pal and GOP presidential nominee, John McCain, is in good health.

"Thank God, she's not gonna have to be president from day one, because McCain's going to be alive and well," Lieberman said in a conference call with reporters.

Lieberman said he was confident that Palin, whose foreign policy background has been questioned by Democrats, could step in and handle the chief executive's job.

"If, God forbid, an accident occurs or something of that kind, she'll be ready," Lieberman said. "She's had executive experience. She's smart and she will have had on-the-job training."

Lieberman added that if Democrat Barack Obama wins the White House, he would support his presidency.

"I hope and pray, and I am working my heart out for McCain to be elected our next president, but if for whatever the reason he is not, I am going to do everything I can to be part of bringing people together across party lines to support the new president so he can succeed," Lieberman said. "What's at stake for our country is just too serious."

Lieberman was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000 and was re-elected to the Senate in 2006 as an independent.

And the winner of this year's Senate Dance-A-Thon is Sen Joe Lieberman who has shown that he can move more quickly and with greater agiliity from one side of the aisle to the other than any other current or former senator. And all of this without breaking a sweat. Congratulations Sen Lieber-lying-man.

Thank God is right.

Lieberman is like a penicillin resistant strain of VD. On one day he claims to admire Senator Obama. On the other, he is ready to help Sarah Palin run the country "If, God forbid, an accident occurs." With friends like these, Senator McCain, who needs enemies?

Ha! Guess what Lieberman, nothing's going to save you now that you crossed completely over to the dark side.

You are in the radar, it's only a matter of time now! Enjoy your last years in congress.

The end of Liebermann's relevance was cemented into place at the republican convention when he jumped onto the sinking ship.

And the band played on.

He'd better. His reelection will be at the same time as Barack Obama.

Joe Lieberman should resign. Failing that, he should hold his tongue.

First, he bucked the will of his party, which rejected him in a properly run primary, to run as an independent. Why? Personal ambition. Second, he not only backs McCain, he has made his own vigorous attack on Obama. Why? Personal ambition; he thought he would be the VP nominee. Third, he supports a ticket featuring Sarah Palin, who, from her pew, listens politely to the leader of the virulently anti-semitic Jews for Jesus argue that Jews are attacked by terrorists because they do not accept Jesus Christ. This is the argument used in the sixteenth century by Pope Paul IV - a leader of the Inquisition - when he established the ghetto of Rome in 1555. What a disgrace he is to Democrats and to Jews of any political affiliation!

Have some decency, Joe. Go away.

I'm worried. The polls worry me sick.
We're voting for a man with almost no relevant experience.
He is a great motivating speaker with a cool demeanor, but that's it.
I don't believe that the $650 million came from small donors, there is a scandal brewing.
Its more money than every other candidate for the primary and general election combined!
Maybe big donors with many little donations, foreign donors, even middle east donors i think.
I'm worried about having a democratically controlled white house, senate and congress.
I like the liberal positions on the environment and other social issues.
But the tax policies of Obama would hurt the economy.
The move toward socialism of Obama, Pelosi and Reed would damage the US work ethic.
More government would only cause long term damage to the country.
I like the old McCain, the moderate maverick who would fight the conservative republicans
Out of despiration i think we need to vote for McCain and hope that he revives his former sensibilities.
We need a president who will stop promising voters things we cannot afford.
We need a president who can balance the budget without raising taxes.
We need a president who can talk honestly about Social Security, welfare and healthcare.
I will reluctantly have to vote for McCain.

You can worry yourself sick so it's best not to. My grandma used to have a saying: "Weed your own garden before you go weeding someone else's". Like most sayings it can mean many things, but if you're concerned about "more government", stop using it so much. Don't take any social security, don't hire workers who have been publicly educated, pay Fed-Ex or UPS to deliver your mail instead of using the U.S. mail, fill in the potholes around your neighborhood instead of waiting for "the city" or "the county" to do it, stop using public restrooms and go in the woods (wastewater plants are a part of the city government) and believe me, taking action will reduce the stress of worrying. As to socialism damaging the work ethic, the socialism FDR implemented in his "New Deal" program in the 1930's HELPED the country get out of a world-wide depression similar to the one we're in now. His socialist view included the 1938 labor law act which gave working people the weekend, public education up to the 12th grade, Federally funded public works(TVA), Social Security, etc., and under FDR policies the U.S. became the world superpower after 1945. What makes you think obligating you as a worker to work 14-16 hour days with no weekends, with no benefits, with no healthcare, with no assistance for your kids to go to college, is such a good deal?

Chris Rock is that you?

YAWN. It's getting so old, this hogwash, these ludicrous assertions with no substantial evidence offered. Why, for example, are Obama's policies "socialist?" Because the robocalls say so? Can you DEFINE socialism? Can you point to numbers that qualify the policies as socialist? Are these numbers different from McCain's, or is it just that the numbers skew toward the poor and middle class (gasp!) instead of the rich?

How, exactly, would "more government" damage the country? And what do you mean by "more government?"

And how would the tax policies of Obama hurt the economy, exactly?

Etc., etc. This post reads like a talking point memo for the RNC.

If Sarah Palin is the best the Republican party can offer up as their next presidential candidate for the year 2012, then it's no wonder the party is in the toilet. She's almost a mirror image of George Bush, except that she wears a dress.

So the dems pluck a guy who is a great bulls**ter...no record, no experience, "community organizer ...empty suit..but he'll be a great rubber stamp guy...HE OWES BIGTIME...blue rubber stamp man for Pelosi and Reid..he'll do as he's told.

Make up yer mind. First, you accuse him of being a "Washington elitist", a Washington "insider", and when that doesn't stick you come up with your latest schtick; " no record, no experience, "community organizer ...empty suit". The fact is to become President one only needs to qualify as per the U.S. constitution and it says: "Clause 5: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
It's how the U.S. is supposed to be different from other countries, we elect different people into office instead of having a parade of successors who are related to the throne. In the arena of ideas your conservative ideas have lost out. The proof of your failure is evident in the deplorable status of the U.S. economy. Were it to be true, the fact that the public would pick an "empty suit" over your candidate says a lot about what the public thinks of your values and positions.
