The Hill:

John McCain is employing several lines of attack each day and Republican strategists say the lack of focus makes it nearly impossible for him to gain ground before Election Day.

Over the last several days, while Democratic nominee Barack Obama has emphasized his "closing argument," McCain's campaign has employed a variety attacks against the Illinois senator: they criticized him for wanting to "spread the wealth," promoted the Joe the Plumber tour, reminded voters of Obama's past relationships with domestic terrorist William Ayers, questioned Obama's readiness to be commander-in-chief, warned about the dangers of one party rule, and hit Obama for voting for the 2005 energy bill, among other things.

His message *is* getting though.

"I want to be POTUS and I will say anything I have to in order to get there."

McCain and Palin can't sell their platform because even they realize that they have no substantive policies to present which differ significantly from those of the Bush years.

So instead they rely on instilling fear and hatred of somebody who is "different", a philosophy that is consistent with the history of the extreme right of the GOP. They are all about morality, but care nothing about ethics.

The GOP is losing because the American public rapidly became turned off by the McCain campaign's continual character attacks on Obama. First he was labeled a "celebrity", then an "elitist", and now a "socialist" and a "terrorist sympathizer". McCain is also losing because, once the luster wore off, the public realized that Palin is woefully unqualified for the office of Vice President, and her selection spoke volumes about the executive judgement of McCain.

The McCain camp claims that their motivation behind attacking Obama has been to question his character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential.

Well, if you examine the conduct of both candidates during the past month, there is no question about who has shown the character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential necessary to restore our nation's standing in the world, resurrect our economic vitality, fix the broken health care system, and motivate industry to shift from fossil fuel to non-polluting, renewable energy technologies.

Obama/Biden '08.
