Senator Dole Sued Over Misleading "Godless" Commercial (VIDEO)

The Democratic candidate for Senate in North Carolina fired back in court on Thursday after a television advertisement questioned her Christian faith and linked her to a political group called the Godless Americans.

The candidate, State Senator Kay Hagan, filed a defamation lawsuit against her Republican opponent, Senator Elizabeth Dole, and released a 30-second television response affirming her belief in God.

Undeterred, Sen. Dole released a second "Godless" ad, claiming that Hagan's faith isn't "the question" and again tying Hagan to the Godless Americans group.

I know defamation suits are difficult to win, but what Dole has done is so outrageous, that I
hope Hagan takes her to the cleaners. It would be a salubrious message to wanna bes.

I always had a positive view of Elizabeth Dole. Now I just the aged claws of power fighting for all they are worth to keep away the change of the guard.

I'm very sad to see Liddy Dole go down this path. I used to have a lot of respect for her, and you would think her esteemed husband would advise her not to stoop to this.

Hagan should sue. Using her image and a proxy for her voice is defamation of character. Politicians should be sued when they stoop to character assassination to win elections. I hope Hagan wins big on Tuesday and pursues her lawsuit to make this poisonous political tactic expensive for Dole and anyone else anticipating such despicable tactics.

This whole Rovian thing needs to stop. The republicans saw Bush (a poor candidate) win with these low-down tactics and they bought that it is the best way to win, hook, line and sinker. Well it isn't the best way to win, and Obama will prove that on Tuesday.

Look what it did to Bush, Rove and their ilk. Now Dole is joining the crowd and it will destroy her too.

Lizzy Dole surprised me. I thought she was a great Christian, southern lady. A person's character tell you who they really are. Dole fooled me for a long time.

Religion is a mask of the Ego. That's why people will die for it. If their Ego is threatened, they fear existential annhiliation. Anyone that has a sincere and secure faith has no need to shove it down anyone's throat.

This feels like the Yes on Prop 8 campaign in CA, where GOD and SACRED can be so easily threatened by the freedom of others. Seriously- take God out of our daily lives? How Christian are you then? Have you no Rock?

I just can't believe that these scare tactics that someone else's marriage affects the sacredness of yours, or whether or not someone gets funds from a group that doesn't want money to say, "In God we trust" is more effective for some people than Real American Values- Protecting the Rights of the Minority!!!

Jesus spent the majority of his time around people who the religious leaders saw as corrupt. They called Jesus a drunkard and a glutton because of the people he hung out, or "palled around", with.

The apostle Paul said that if you only stay around people who believe the same as you do, how will you ever be an agent of change?

And to me, the separation of church and state only helps this country. It gives me the freedom to teach my children and our congregation the way WE believe, not the way our government believes.
