Some Chicago Cabs Haven't Reduced Surcharge

A $1 fuel surcharge in Chicago taxi cabs is supposed to drop to 50 cents today. But several cabbies still haven't reduced the fee.

None of the handful of cab drivers I spoke with this morning had reduced the fuel surcharge to 50 cents. In April, city officials imposed the $1 surcharge amid rising fuel costs. Since then, gas prices have dropped, leading to a rollback on the surcharge.

But, some cab drivers like Kehinde Ola say they thought the change wasn't supposed to take effect until tomorrow. Despite this, Ola says the 50 cent-surcharge is fair.
