Daily Kos:

We're in a death watch here.

My mom was diagnosed with Stage IIIb lung cancer back in May of 2006, and it's finally come to the crisis hour. ...

My mom was not a political animal, and she didn't like it when I went on and on about politics. She lived and taught in heavily Republican districts for her entire life, despite growing up in a blue-collar, Democratic stronghold. Economically, she had every advantage; the Bush tax cuts were surely good for her rather than bad. She isn't affected by the economic slowdown because she never invested in the stock market. She voted for Reagan twice, and had to put up with my ribbing her about that from the time I became politically sentient in the early 80s.

But my mother, from her deathbed, voted for Obama.

Someone left a post of condolence and noted that they had also lost their mother but went on to say that they knew their mother was still with them as she drops by in her dreams. Made me cry. For my mother is gone too but I still see her in my mind's eye.

I am sorry about your Mom and I am glad that she had the chance to cast her vote.

I just lost my Mom, she died on Sept 1 in Alexandria, Virginia. I was with her her last two weeks and she was really excited about Obama and we watched the DNC on tv together from her room. She loved his intelligence and his positive message. In fact quite a few of the even older folks on her floor said how much they liked him in the dining room. She crossed Democratic ranks for Reagan too like your Mom had. She left us before she had a chance to vote, but she is definitely cheering for Obama.

A book I can recommend to you is 'Healing Life, Healing Death'-a grief counselor recommended it to me.
