Reid: Stevens Cannot Serve In Senate

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was forced into the middle of Sen. Ted Stevens' (R-Alaska) re-election bid late Saturday night after a senior Senate Democrat endorsed Stevens and called on voters to disregard his seven-count felony conviction.

In a bluntly worded release from his office, Reid warned that Stevens would not only face an ethics investigation but also expulsion proceedings regardless of his efforts to appeal the convictions.

No doubt Stevens needs to go, but Reid needs to be put on a bus and dropped off in Search Light, Nevada with a no return ticket. Ones a crook and the other is just plain incompetent.

2 b sure that Ted Stevens can't return 2 the US Senate-remove Harry Reid from any position of leadership now. He has the spine of a night crawler. He & Pelosi gave W everything W wanted. Neither Pelosi nor Reid are leaders. Send both of them to the closest thing the US Congress has to the UK Parliments, House of Commons's back benches. It's an understatement to say that they were & are grossly incompetent. Send them to Tahiti to study poi making or making clothing out of grass till the 111th Congress is replaced by the 112th Congress.

Usually (it probably depends on the rules of individual states) the governor (i.e., Sarah Palin in this case) appoints a replacement.

I agree. Do wrong - suffer the consequences, he was found guilty! No one but no one can accept gifts and not know they got them. Don't play us for stupid! Why should his laws be any different than us government employees who have to sign an ethic statement once a year where we cannot even accept a pencil with some company's name imprinted on it. The law is clear. Besides,
he already is over the age limit and he should enjoy retirement and let someone younger have

I guess it's just schadenfreude, but part of me wishes he would pull off a win (polls say he won't) just to see him humiliated by his colleagues. But then ofcourse Sara Palin would get to appoint his replacement. Who would she pick, herself, her husband or maybe a friend from high school? Nice to see Reid has a spine.
