Anonymous Call Tells Pennsylvania Dems To Vote Wednesday

Voting

A registered Democrat in Pennsylvania writes the Huffington Post to report that she has received an anonymous phone call telling her she should go to the polls on Wednesday.

"I received a phone call from an unidentified caller yesterday telling me that because of the expected high voter turnout, Democrats will need to vote on Wednesday, November 5th," she writes.

The calls are obviously misleading, as voting ends on Tuesday. And apparently they have been going on for quite some time. This past Friday the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported "robocalls making the rounds in Pittsburgh region" disseminating the misleading information. The reader who contacted Huffington Post was from the Philadelphia suburbs, at the opposite end of the state.

Contacted by the Huffington Post, a spokesman for the Obama campaign's Pennsylvania operations said he was aware of the misleading calls but "not worried about" their impact.

If you hear anything more about this or other last-minute election tactics, please contact the Huffington Post.

These calls should be traced and whoever is in charge needs to be sued. There should be a lawsuit over this issue.

My girlfried got one of these texts from a rabid McCain supporter she works with. We both had already voted for O last week.

Party affiliations don't define me. I'm American!

My husband got a message on his palm pilot, Monday here in CA. It said that anyone who was going to vote for Obama had to vote on Wed. He traced its trail though Cave City, Arkansas and then to a source in Mississippi. He laughed because it didn't say just democrats in general but specifically Obama supporters. I can't believe how some people are so ignorant.

Just got a text message going around AZ saying the same thing. I don't know if my friend sent it to me as a joke, knowing I'm an Obama guy, but I suspect it's out there making the rounds.

My response? "Thanks - whatever would we do without those honest, democracy-loving Republicans?"

"In one week, you can put an end to the politics that would divide a nation just to win an election; that tries to pit region against region, city against town, Republican against Democrat; that asks us to fear at a time when we need hope. In one week, at this defining moment in history, you can give this country the change we need.....In one week, we can choose hope over fear, unity over division, the promise of change over the power of the status quo. In one week, we can come together as one nation, and one people, and once more choose our better history. That’s what’s at stake. That’s what we’re fighting for." Obama Closing argument Speech - Oct 27th 2008
Now GO VOTE! Make History!

As a law enforcement officer I doubt there is anything actually illegal about it, they are simply lying and if that is in the federal law books then I have no idea.

Just vote, tomorrow we can drink and celebrate or get drunk in sorrow, either way I took the day off and look forward to pushing the button for real change, even if my vote means nothing because I live in a state where the majority of the vote is based on the color of someones skin.

It is a misdemeanor to disseminate false election information...the culprit should be caught and charged.

Reverse call lookup, find the house, and pour gas out on the lawn to spell Obama.... Hehehehhe

No really that would be wrong, do not do that.
They are SCARED....

Nah, even that won't work -- there is caller ID spoofing these days. (My own # was used in a scam & I had to change it because of this.)

If you don't show up to vote because someone tells you to vote on Wednesday, you should be voting.

I just wonder if anybody will be prosecuted. Surely it's traceable. Somebody paid for this - and there must be a paper trail.

Why do we never hear of prosecutions over actions like this?

Catch them. It is a criminal felony.

Are we not able to track down where these calls come from and prosecute them? How is this legal in any way?
