After an election in which both major party candidates promised the creation of huge numbers of green jobs, director of Climate and Energy Initiatives for Google.org Dan Reicher's particular resume might be the most appealing one for Barack Obama's Secretary of Energy:

Reicher's knowledge of venture capital and commercializing green technology make him an appealing candidate to Bill Becker, executive director of the Presidential Climate Action Project. "We're facing one of the most promising worldwide market opportunities that we've ever had, and we need this kind savvy business experience," Becker said.

Incidentally, there's a 2000 interview with Reicher when he was still serving as Assistant Secretary of Energy, and in which he discusses making his own home a bit greener:

HE: When you decided to make your home improvements, was it mainly based on a desire to save money, or to help the environment, or to improve the home's resale value?

DR: It was for all of those reasons, but I'm first and foremost interested in "walking the talk". I think that people in this business should start with their own homes and learn about the technologies--and experience the successes and frustrations. And sure, we wanted to save some money and cut pollution. I don't know how long we'll be in the house, but when we go to sell it, I think potential buyers will be intrigued.

President-elect Obama believes in the non-traditional approach to achieve the "change we need". So rather than Gore, Schwarzenegger or the other Gov's, here's an unlikely, but very appropriate non-traditional approach for Energy Secretary under President Obama: Andrew Liveris, current CEO of the Dow Chemical Company. He's been out preaching abut the need for a truly comprehensive energy policy in the U.S. for a long while now, most recently at the coveted podium of the Detroit Economic Club. Every time he speaks, he's told he should be running for public office. Given his company is hugely connected to the energy sector and he is vastly knowledgeable of all things energy on a global basis, this non-traditional choice makes a lot of sense.

Dan Reicher from google.org? He would be the perfect person for this position. I for one thought of someone from the venture capital industry and I think he will be a great selection! I'm surprised that Huffpo mentioned him. People here should visit www.google.org for some of the ventures that he helped fund.

heard from a very good source that Nelson A. Diaz is strongly being considered for Sec. of HUD. He was Clinton's General Counsel for HUD and would be a terrific choice.

Dan understands the huge potential of Geothermal. This source of alternative energy has significance far beyond the attention it is receiving. I believe this alone would be a very important reason to consider him for the Secretary's job.

Dan is a seasoned energy veteran and is a strong supporter of expanded use of non-petroleum fuels and technologies, and would be a fine choice for the job. If he can make DOE work more efficiently and make renewable energy and energy efficiency a cornerstone of the agency's mission, he will have made a huge contribution to achieving the goals of Barack Obama's top policy priority.
