In Ohio, Obama's Ground Game Outguns McCain's

The LA Times:

Reporting from Delaware, Ohio -- John McCain has targeted this wealthy area just north of Columbus as one of 15 counties in Ohio where he needs to drive up his vote tally if he is to beat Barack Obama on Tuesday in this must-win state.

But on Friday night, only nine volunteers manned the 24 phones in the McCain campaign office. The phone bank began operating on a daily basis just two weeks ago. And since then, only five people have shown up on most weekdays to canvass local neighborhoods.

The lack of enthusiastic voluteer support in the McCain camp can be attributed to any number of things, among them was the outdated mode of campaigning used by McCain.

The LA Progressive wrote a great piece on Obama's Ground Game (OGG) and the other tactics employed by Obama that McCain failed to use which explain the huge difference in the voluteer support for these two campaigns.

We saw a little boy (about 10 years old) in the middle of a major road here in Lakewood, CO holding a McCain/Palin sign! Maybe that's there ground game here in Colorado!!!

I live in Thornton, CO -- we've had 4 different Obama people come to our door this last month, plus phone calls!! Haven't seen anyone from the McCain campaign!!!

Vote folks. New voters, please know where you go to vote. If you do not know, check out:

Also, take numerous pieces of IDs in case poll workers want to look at it, primary state ID cards or state Driver's license. Also, take recently dated mail (i.e., electric bills, etc.)

Take a folding chair, camping chair or other. Also, take food and water, if you anticipate long lines.

Don't trust the polls. Go out and vote.

This is something I wish I'd thought of MUCH, MUCH earlier, and it's very simple.

If you have time on Tuesday, don't just hand out water and snacks.

Get in line with a sign offering your place to someone who physically can't wait in line for eight hours. The elderly or physically incapable.

And once they're near the front, get in line again at the back and do it again, and again, and again.

Even if it's not your polling place, even if you've already voted, even if you're from a different state. You never actually have to enter the polling place, but it'll make all the difference.

I wish I'd thought of this earlier, but better late than never. My plans are to create a website for 2012 where people can specifically sign up to contact another voter already waiting in line.
