Leonardo Dicaprio

PARIS (AFP) -- Leonardo DiCaprio is crossing his fingers for a US election win by Democrat Barack Obama and said Monday he believes the rest of the world is, too.

"I think it is the true ideals and dreams of America to have an African-American president named Barack Obama to be the representation of the United States at a time like this," said DiCaprio, in Paris as co-star of Middle-East themed movie "Body of Lies."

Obama, DiCaprio went on, is "a man that has great policies, a man that is a great intellectual, who knows what he's doing."

"I've my fingers crossed that he will win because I think he'll make some dramatic changes in our country that we're looking for, but the rest of the world is as well."

Leo: right on, right on. The uninformed often point to celebrities as the poster children for faux,
self-indulgent political opinion when in fact many if not most celebs are better informed as well
as better traveled than other citizens and therefore have a clearer perspective.

Do progressives blindly follow celeb opinion? No. We respect it, however.

Obama will indeed be a transformational figure as Colin Powell has called him.

Obama is for our time what Lincoln, FDR, and JFK were in previous times.

I'm baffled by this kind of praise, the man voted for FISA and the Cheney Energy bill. Is it the American dream do be spied on by your government... I don't think so!

Listen, Mattie,

Some of us have learned from 2000 and will not let someone with policies like W and McCain win again. Sure Obama isn't perfect. The U.S. with Gore as president would have been a world apart from what it is now. I doubt we would have had the war, Katrina or economic collapse. Family planning aid is being taken away from third world countries that cannot feed the babies that they have, Nader was right about corruption and control by big business on both sides. He was wrong about both parties being the same. The last eight years have shown us how horrible things can be.

Obama will be a breath of fresh air.

But if the people say no, Obama will listen. He didn't draft that bill. Obama will listen.

McCain voted against Martin Luther King day, doesn't care about air pollution or any other environmental issue, wants the wealthiest folks to have tax cuts, and does not believe every American should have health care, yet throws money in the form of a refund check to buy his votes. I don't think so!

But Mattie, all the pundits say he's the most liberal member of the Senate. What he is is inspiring. We're going to have to hold him to account and make him do better.

Thank you Leo!

Obama’s presidency is a giant leap forward for this nation. It will, forever, close the chapter on the America’s dark past in regards to its ugly memories of slavery. It illustrates that indeed, and one could say at last, America is practicing what it preaches when it comes to equality. If in any other country a poor boy’s dream to become his nation’s leader would seem insane, not in our America, we can proudly proclaim.

With Obama as our President, we can illustrate, to friends and foes, that indeed America is the only nation on earth that can break the barriers of status que by reinventing itself for better. By highlighting his life, as a living example, the world can see that hard work and perseverance is America’s way to overcome any obstacles. That perseverance is in our blood, and that America might be down, but will never be out. That “America being the land of unlimited opportunities” is not just a cliché.

Let the world see that Obama’s rise to the highest office, against all odds, and despite the conditions under which he was raised, is the symbol of the greatness and strength of our nation. That we, the American people, will use the stones thrown at us in ill intentions, to build a foundation on which to stand, prouder than ever, reclaiming our rightful place in history.

Proud Independent voter, voting for Obama for President

If you will consider the depth of DiCaprio's performances, it is obvious he is a reamarkable artist with extraordinary sensitivity and insight. Damn right his opinion is important.

Exactly, DiCaprio has fame because he has enormous talent and works on thoughtful projects with brilliant directors. He is a far cry from the Paris Hilton kind of hollow celebrity.

Are you kiddn' me? Leonardo has a great influence, all celebrities do, that's why what they say, and do make the media, and the newspapers, and TV news media, magazines...
......(get where I am going with this?)
At any rate, it does count. And given that fact, OBAMA wins by a landslide, because a slew of celebrities with big MONEY support him!

I'm not a celebrity, but I've given Obama $70 over the course of the primaries and general election. This is how he's built his war chest, not by big donors or PAC money. He's rewritten the books on how to build a political organization. He truly is a candidate for the people, of the people. by the people.

What if the World could vote??? not trying to sound like a coke commercial either...

Gallup recently found that nearly one-third of the world’s population feels the result of the American election will make a difference in their countries.

I would love to see HuffPost create a world voting mechanism...their vote does count in our global society and how we influence and impact the world in so many ways.
