Obama

MTV:

MTV News sat down with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Saturday in Nevada, but we weren't alone. We were armed with your questions, and we took them directly to the senator himself. (MTV News extended a similar offer to Republican presidential candidate John McCain, but he declined.)

It was your last chance to bring your issues directly to the candidate before the polls open Tuesday. Obama took on a wide range of topics, including gay rights, gun violence, civil liberties and even sagging-pants ordinances.

I looved the questions, and it says a lot about Obama the way he answered. He was direct and engaging....and most importantly you believe he means what he says. A true leader

"There are some issues that we face, that you don't have to pass a law, but that doesn't mean folks can't have some sense and some respect for other people and, you know, some people might not want to see your underwear — I'm one of them."

Isn't it funny that for all the deregulation that Republicans want, and claims that they just want the gov to "stay out of their way", they're the one's who want to regulate how we choose to live our lives: no gay marriage, no abortions, ordinances about clothing, etc. BUT, let companies put as much polution into our air and water as they want, etc.

Seems to me is that Dems want to regulate businesses who will ignore public safety for profit, whereas Repubs want to regulate PEOPLE and tell them how to live their lives...force people to follow THEIR beliefs.

I was sitting with a group of friends one morning when a droopy drawered kid walked by. The oldest lady in the group turned to us and said very quietly, "Am I the only one who is tempted to run up to these kids and pull their pants off?" We all about died laughing.

Aside from looking ridiculous (really, are there girls out there who think it's hot to walk around like you've got a hunk of poop in your undies?), what about the whole safety factor? What if droopy drawers is being chased? Does he hang onto his waistband for dear life while running, or does he let the pants fall and hope that he doesn't trip on them and eat the pavement?

Don't get me wrong. I think we've all had questionable fashion choices as kids. Seriously, though: I'd take the legwarmers over droopy drawers any day. *gag* It might look idiotic but at least I can run from danger without worrying about losing my pants.

This has always cracked me up. I've always enjoyed pantsing people who asked for it. It bothers me that these kids seem to have no sense of humor and haven't learned to pants their friends when they make it so easy.

The droopy drawers thing is just a lack of respect for other people. The young are not learning respect like they did in the day. It's getting worse and worse.
Pull up your pants youngsters and read a book for a change. You can go now.

Hopefully, this dumb fad will pass. It was started by emulating prison wear - beltless pants which sagged.

Even more hopefully young people of all ethnicities and classes will open their eyes up to what is possible. It's not uncool to be the "nerd"...

The inability to wear your pants at the proper level means one of two things: you have no a$$ or cannot buy clothes that fit. Boxers are not a clothing style or a statement. They are there to cover your junk. Want to say something? WRITE A BOOK OR A SONG OR PAINT OR SCULPT. Those are artistic outlets. Low-rider pants are just a fad whose time is long overdue.

"Brothers" SHOULD pull up their pants, IMO... but there should be NO LAW that says they have to.

Yes they should pull them up. I was in the store a couple of weeks ago and a young man couldn't have pay for keeping his pants on showing his blue checkered undies.

It is time to grow up and stop acting like fools. That is where folk are getting negative impressions of young folk especially young black folk.

And while they're pulling up their pants, they need to take off the all the bling too. It is not becoming in these hard economic times. Plus it is so passe.

Thank God, I am a black woman and I have been waiting for someone who had guts to speak to the young black brothers about their appearance, you are how you dress. This makes me proud.

Once kids learn a sense of direction, the gangsta look will disappear. By tomorrow night Obama can prove to all the wannabes that they actually can be whatever they aspire to. If you're young, dedicated and ambitious there is no ceiling. The dedication and ambition can be acquired as they grow - it''s the youth part that's fleeting.

As some wise one once said and I paraphrase,"The only problem with youth is it's wasted on the young."

BY NO MEANS AM I DEFENDING THE WAY THEY DRESS.......

but honestly, has the media given them anything but Rappers and Athletes to look up to? And even when the rappers are doing something positive like non-profits and charity.......it's not advertised.

It's social control at it's root. Teach them they are at the bottom of the social pool and give them nothing to insire to become....and they will make it their place.

Thank you. These "heros" for our youth- preaching money and promiscuity, engaging in childish temperment, and brazenly breaking the law- need to be replaced. And their families, who all too often fall victim to the same hero worship, need to make the difference. That's difficult challenge, but one that must be met.
