Lieberman: 'I Fear' That 'America Will Not Survive' If Dems Get 60 Senate Seats

With the possibility that Democrats might soon gain a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has been openly flirting with thoughts of voting with his conservative colleagues. Last week, ThinkProgress noted that prominent conservatives like Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) said he would welcome Lieberman "with open arms."

Today, in an interview with right-wing radio host Glenn Beck, Lieberman made clear that he firmly opposes Democrats gaining 60 seats in the Senate, saying that the survival of the country is in doubt if Democrats break the filibuster threshold:

BECK: But do you agree that Senator Hatch said to me that if we don't at least have the firewall of the filibuster in the Senate that in many ways America will not survive?

LIEBERMAN: Well, I hope it's not like that, but I fear.

He should be stripped of his chairmanship and let him do what he wants. Whether a Dem or GOP he will vote the way he wants.

This guy is supposedly an Orthodox Jew but rest assured he will quickly become a Messianic Jew ("Jew for Jesus") in the near future as he sides with and becomes part of the right wing religious freaks like his great friend, John Hagee.

He is a disgrace to Judaism and Christianity, much less then Senate.

Barack wants reconciliation, which we need, but Joe has gone too far and he should stay far, far away...

Lieberman has shown himself to be as genuine a "turncoat" as possible. first, he loses the Demo. primary because of his Iraq stance; then he runs as an "independent" and is re-elected by, primarily, GOP voters; then the Demo senate leadership, badly needing his vote, pretend he's still "one of us" and treat him as such; then he endorses McCain (and badly wanted to be his VP); and now he rails against a filabuster-proof majority. If it walks, talks, and squirms like a weasel, it must be Joe Lieberman. Let's let Joe join the GOP caucus where he belongs and wait four more years for him to run for re-election as an Independent, or more fittingly, as a Republican.

If someone would investage who pulls Lieberman strings then you wil see agroup of people that will try to undermine American policy. I know these people and know America is not where there heart is.

I am big time pro Isreal and would be considered on the very far right in Isreal concerning the Palastinian issue but with me i am born in America and America in number one for me in my heart and soul.

Lierberman is attracted to the extreme right wing and is dangerous for the future of America and many Republicans voted for Barak Obama because they saw there party being hijacked by the extreme right . Lieberman belives the extreme right will do whatever Isreal wants and that is his agenda and if others check this out that will see the same.

Get rid of Lieberman because of his idea that Obama will not support Isreal but also because Isreal is before America in Liebermans eyes and that is dangerous.

The people that pulls the strings on Liberman also have has race issues since the time of Moses

Look who interviews Leiberman that hate monger Glenn Beck, who has a lot to lose if Congress and America become bipartisan again. Beck, Sean, Savage and Rush depend on a divided America and they certainly aren't going to risk their livelihood in an effort to bring Americans together. Listen to Beck, he doesn't even give Obama 24 hours before he's attacking. Rush Limbaugh is talking about the election being stolen. Is this what we want as Americans just more disfunction and division or do we want to take the higher ground and at l;east give our new president a chance to govern?

I'm at least hopeful that, with the mandate Obama clearly has received in both electoral and popular vote, most people will not join the Limbaugh venom-parade. I think he's going to come off as mostly irrelevant to most people (at least for a few months).

If the Repubes decide to try to block everything the new congress does, they do so at their own peril. People are tired of this kind of crap. We want Congress to DO something. This is why more Dems were elected, to try and get past these stupid games.

I bet that if the Repubes try this filibuster everything approach, that the 2010 election WILL give the Dems the 60 they need.

Lieberman has shown us what we hate most about politicans. Once you get to Washington you find any means to stay there regardless of what it costs you in character.

Lets hope Reid actually lives up to all his hot air and not only kicks Lieberman but puts someone there who will revisit Bush's infringement of our rights.

Reid should take away his chairmanship, take away his other committee postings and even take away his office and move him to a basement mop closet.
