Fox News called Ohio for Barack Obama while Karl Rove was in the middle of an electoral map analysis that said John McCain will have a nearly impossible road to victory without Ohio.

"If he loses Ohio," Rove said of McCain, "he goes from 286, which the Republicans carried in 2004, down to 266, and that puts him below the 270 threshold needed to win the White House. So he'd not only need to sweep the rest of these states which were won by the Republicns in 2004, he'd also need to pick up something as well."

"Guess what Karl," Brit Hume broke in, "I've just received word that the state of Ohio has gone for Barack Obama."

Watch, as Rove sketches out McCain's improbable last hope for a road to the White House, which goes through the solidly blue states of California, Oregon, Hawaii, and Michigan (he would need one of those to win the White House):

Watching Fox News on Tuesday night was like watching a televised funeral. All the attendees, Republican partisans all, knew an electoral rout was about to occur. To keep the faithful happy and their eyes glued to Fox (lest the ratings suffer--which they did as Republicans turned off the TV in droves) Fox tried all manner of tricks and phony hype to keep its audience. Chris Wallace looked like a school teacher as he gave out "Fox cookies" to the other hosts. Brit Hume was the silliest of all, bragging about new set graphics ("But you're standing in front of a green screen, right?" he asked with a goofy grin). The most hilarious moment of the evening had to be when Hume and Karl Rove stood in front of the electoral map with Rove pontificating on how McCain had to win Ohio after Pennsylvania fell to Obama. While Rove stood there counting electoral votes like an accountant counting pennies, Ohio had already turned blue. "Guess what, Karl?" Hume intoned ruefully. Rove had not noticed what every other human being on the face of the earth already knew and so Rove stood there looking quite foolish. Guess what, indeed.

Guess what Subversive, My name is David Matoke from Dallas, Tx. and I approve your Message. You spoke for me and many fellow Americans. It is as if I sat there and dictated you to write those words. Very good choice of words and I thank you, Sir.

I really am enjoying this, these guys look like they aren't at all surprised, just glad they aren't in jail, yet. . .

This is priceless! And not only is Rove's political career over, but he may go to JAIL with the new congress and administration in a position to hold him accountable for his past actions!

I know that deep down, Karl Rove had to know that George Bush was not qualified to be president in 2000 and certainly NOT in 2004. Please look at the headlines around the globe especially London after the 2004 elections. Look where it has gotten us to. I urge my fellow americans not to ever look at just one item in order to qualify a candidate, such as abortion. Thrashing our economy should matter too. And my friend Rudy guliani, please be advised that your president for the next four years is a community organiser. Also take note that if you try to run again, the polls will probably show you registering below 1%.

they're so confused. Let me help them, "Guys, this is what happens when the vote is counted and you don't get to disenfranchise 200,000 voters in Ohio by purging them. Amazing what a little democracy will do!"

What fun to watch them in their sad little procession. Can't wait to see the last of Rove.

I love watching Faux news. When they called it for Obama, you KNOW it was done!

It was totally priceless!! Brit Hume looked like he just wanted to go home. He's retiring soon anyway and Rove, being the WH lacky he is, knew it was ALL OVER!

Excellent comment. I watched that over and over again. The days of Rove and Co. are soon coming to an end. Good riddance! Schadenfraude!

Not only did Ohio go Blue ... but so did Hamilton County (Cincinnati) which was the Republican's stronghold city. Cleveland was always strong Dem, and Cincinnati countered that as strong Republican. But with Hamilton County now having more Dems registered than Repubs.... it makes Ohio blue. By having Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati blue... completely outweighs the rest of the state being Red because of the light population in those farming areas.

Far be it for me to defend Faux news, but everyone was doing this, and in my opinion it had less to do about ideology and more to do about ratings. Once Ohio fell, everyone KNEW the game was over, but they had to pretend that it wasn't because they were afraid they'd lose viewers without any sense of drama building. So that led to some frankly ridiculous scenarios: McCain's still in it, because he could still in theory carry California! Stay tuned!

Still, watching Faux News stumble around is never unsatisfying!
