Just before 9 am EST, 8 am Chicago time, Barack Obama and wife Michelle, joined by daughters Malia and Sasha, cast their votes for president. Looked relaxed, Obama greeted fellow voters and joked with his family. Robert Gibbs was also with them, waiting by the door.

I heard this on the radio today, I may never stop tearing up:

""Rosa sat so Martin could walk, Martin walked so Obama could run, Obama is running so our children can fly""

On this auspicious eve, with a balmy breeze borne on a sea of human tears and historical hurts, with restrained enthusiasm and a refusal to gloat because of the seriousness of the issues that still lie ahead of the hard fought, two-year climb to the top, we, as a nation, however reluctantly, are growing up, one step at a time. One small step for man (Obama); one giant leap for mankind (America, and an anxious, on-looking world). I'm talking about xenophobia or nativism or racism or jabs of "real-Americans" versus the proud Melting Pot that stirs deeper than hatred.

I don't agree with the thesis that if McCain/Palin win history will equally have been made. The equation serves the view that collapses history into statistics. Palin and McCain will be mere statistic novelties should they win (Heavens forfend!), but they will not have made history. Both of them lend political legitimation, through obedient servitude, to the mechanisms and operations of blind social relations, where the many are left abandoned to the violence of a ruthlessly antagonistic society and the irrationality of market forces. Palin/McCain will repeat society and reality as they are because they are incapable of making history. They have neither the political nor the social imagination, neither the moral courage nor consciousness of our damaged society, to do so. Only when agents rise and interrupt this man-made eternity of awfulness, only then history is made. Reproducing social violence does not require any significant action, only passive social existence and aggressive resentment (spouting of sentimental banalities and slander). I hope it is clear now why ONLY A BARACK OBAMA WIN will mean that HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE. Only such a win will be indicative of a large and effective collectivity of individuals coming together (miraculously finding in them some shards of agency) and resisting what so powerfully has crashed them for so long. History is made only when society's present structure is given a jolt and new social forces and human sociations are allowed to come to the surface and find expression.

IF McCain/Palin win, history will have been made for how low this country can sink.

Here is a word list for Obama's past
No accomplishments.

It does not take a past to change the world, only a true leadership and vision for the possibilities for the future. McCain, God love him, has been focused on the past. Past keeps him in a cold war mentality, the past keeps him from looking towards the future, and the past (something he cannot do any more) picked his VP.

You can stay in the past or embrace change, either way your life does not affect mine so I could care less which.

These are words that also reflect the true winners if Obama is elected, we the voters. No these words reflect a fundamental shift, paradigm shift if you will, in the way we view our politics. These politics of hope and the energy in which this campaign has moved can be a signal for a large movement of volunteerism, of doing for country, of actually being our brothers keeper rather then just saying it in church or meditations.

No today we take back our country from both parties, we push aside the fear and division and have proven that change can happen, not the transfer of power, but the true fundamental change that does have the power to change the world. Momentum is coming America, momentum is coming.

In 1963 I was amazed to see 75 busses full of black folks pull off the road in front of my house. I was 12 and filled up all of their water jugs with my hose. Then they went on to march on Washington. Last week I voted for a black man and helped fulfill the dream of all of those people on those busses. I helped make history again. I am very proud of my country today. God bless America. God bless Barrack Obama.

It is such a pity that America does not have a 7 day voting period to avoid ramming everything through in a single day.

The Obama's are to be congratulated for taking their kids to the polling station as they will carry this experience forward. Had you a 7 day voting period, everyone could take their kids along.

Nice picture and they will look even better come their inauguration.

What a darling video! Sealed with a kiss and a pat from my heart, I popped my Obama ballot in the mail box last week. The feeling of joy was downright overwhelming.

Yesterday I wept for the loss of Barack's Toot and for the incomprehendable timing of this powerfully sad loss for him and his family.

Today I give deep thanks for the priveledge of such strong day to day emotions (for this long period of time throughout the campaign) over a man that represents unity, dignity, graciousness and intelligence. Sincere thanks to you - Barack, Michelle, Joe and Jill - for all of the daily and family sacrifices that you make in order for the opportunity to properly care for our country and our people. I bow to each of you.

And now, my heart is all a flutter - with HOPE - thanks to the four of you, and all of us, too!

Is everyone as sleep deprived as I am? We delivered breakfast and lunch to 6 polling stations this AM. Even for a blue Maryland turnout is 2x as before!

Our 1 year old granddaughter wore her pink Baby Got barack shirt for Halloween and her mom told everyone she was "THE FUTURE!"

With a bit of luck we will know before too late tonight that Barack Obama is our next PRESIDENT!
