I think it's amazing that one man can have this much of an effect on so many hundreds of millions or even billions of people. I will never forget this and one day I will tell my children about this moment.

Given the world"s overwhelming reaction to Obama"s election victory it"s important to discuss Italy"s. I"m not surprised by Berlusconi"s comments ("Obama is handsome, clever and tanned")? They reflect a pervasive view. I was born in Italy; I can attest to this. In September 2008, a poll showed that over 50% Italians favored McCain over Obama. Clearly, race was a main reason. Italy"s relationship with its home-turf immigrants, especially from Africa and the Middle East, is, increasingly, a very difficult and troubled one. Yet, racial intolerance is not widely discussed in Italy. Most agree that some people are more equal than others; there"s no need to debate or question this "fact". It"s a shame. It"s embarrassing! My (maternal) great-grandfather traveled to America in 1904 and stayed for a while. My family and relatives are spread all over Canada and the United States (and Italy). I know I speak for many immigrants all over the world in condemning Berlusconi"s stupid, ignorant and intolerant remark. He won"t apologize; he maintains his comments were intended as a compliment. I will apologize on behalf of the millions of Italians forced to leave their country of birth during the last century due to political corruption and nepotism, and the industrialized north"s disdain, political and economic oppression of southern Italy. In Milan, garbage trucks are referred to as "Calabrese", a slur against Calabrians living in northern Italy. The other slur of choice against Calbrians living in northern Italy? Africans! Berlusconi is simply following tradition.

It's so incredible to see how much we matter to the rest of the world. When we are not at our best, the world suffers. When we are right, the world feels safer. Part of what makes the election of Obama so important is that we sent a message to the rest of the world to let them know that we understand our responsibility to the peace and stability of this planet.

We lost sight of that and let the greedy get control of our country, and we can't ever let that happen again. Thousands die and millions suffer when Americans put profit over patriotism. With today's announcement that 10 million of us are out of work, we're among the millions who suffer. We can lose America unless we're always vigilant. If we lose America, the world descends into chaos.

This reaction to our new president is proof that they got our message and we got theirs. America has been AWOL for the last eight years, but we've taken back our country, and we're keeping it. Now that we've seen how our vote changed our nation, there are no more excuses for not voting. Now we just have to make sure we don't just elect people because we know their names.

Too bad you can't feel the same jubilation that the rest of the world feels. It must really suck to be so white and republican.

The photo from Afghanistan simply breaks my heart.

Please, let's not forget these men and women still overseas. If you can, please go to "anysoldier.com" and pull together a care package to send. I have my little guy's school class making cards and "gifts" to send over for the holidays. They need to know that we haven't forgotten them, that we pray for their safety and that our support for President Obama spreads to them and our hope that they return home safely, and soon.

For the first time in decades, the United States has a leader that inspires people to look into the future, and acting together .

For the first time in many years, we have an eloquent, intelligent man in the oval office who posseses sophisticated and far-reaching understanding of domestic, international and humanitarian concerns.

There is no messiah here, but we have a good man at the helm, who seeks the good of the many, not only the good of the rich and powerful.

Notice how the whole world is cheering because we elected a weak leader. And then look at that one picture of our troops in Afghanistan, sitting there depressed because they know that 56% of the American people just spit on their sacrifices.

You democrats should be ashamed.

Um, yeah. But seriously, what about Jerusalem? Part of it is the obvious exhilaration that they feel, but my Lord, those girls are beautiful.

You're projecting your shortcomings onto the president elect. Out of thirty photos you pick one to make a point of subverting a collective world celebration, of the potential to come together, and you do this all in order to preserve your cynicism and hatred. I don't like to use this term, but for you it applies: loser.

Never before has the election of a US President been followed with so much interest around the world - from remote villages of Kenya to school rooms in Jakarta. And when Barack Obama was declared President-elect, people all around the world wept with joy.

On the other side of the world, in Indonesia where 'Barry' went to school for four years, his election victory was celebrated as if he had just been elected President of the World.

The front page of the Jakarta Post said it all . . .

Please, please bring more International photos. Initially you had photos from The Netherlands, Shanghai, and one in India where they had the US map in the background and were literaly tracking the results state by state, where we do here. The International community puts us to shame. They know so much more about our elections than we ever will about theirs. We lack intellectual curiosity. I was in Paris last year, and had such good conversations with several cab drivers. They all wanted to talk politics. They were not judgemental, just curious. The wanted to know what I though of Hillary's chances, what similarities existed between Segolene Royal and Hillary, what Obama's chances were, etc. Amazing.

When I arrived in Bangkok last month, my driver was reading one of Obama's books printed in Thai.
We had a spirited political discussion on both Thai and USA politics. In all of my travels over the past years I have been questioned re Bush and his policies and the distaste for the Bush regime was evident once my acquaintances were at ease. I have been told by many in other nations that whom we elect directly affects them and the policies and actions of their own governments. After spending one month is Southeast Asia, I met only one person for McCain, an elderly Japanese man who would only tell me that he felt McCain was a friend of Japan. Obama has thrilled the world and brought a new dawning for all of us!

I would like to share with you and any potentially audience a very special music composition that pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy and historic dream. The moving lyrics convey proof that Dr. Kings' historic and magnificent dream is still revealing itself. As Barack Obama approaches this historic accomplishment of being elected as President of the United States, it confirms that Dr. King's dream is still very much alive.

As the chorus reads:
King's Dream still lives on
Inside of us today
Time has come
For his vision to be realized
Though the journey's been long...
We're finding the strength to carry on
