I Like ItI Don’t Like It

"Saturday Night Live" had a Monday night, Election Eve special Presidential Bash. All the candidates stopped by, from the real Sarah Palin and John McCain to Fred Armisen's Obama Amy Poehler's Hillary Clinton (it was pretaped).

Below are clips of each candidate's appearance.

Will Forte's John Edwards stopped by to explain his affair and possible love child:

Amy Poehler's Hillary Clinton was the host, talking about her Obama support and talked 2012:

The real, not Tina Fey Sarah Palin delivered a message, and talked about how SNL made fun of her:

Fred Armisen's Obama and Darrell Hammonds' Chris Matthews came together, with Matthews telling Obama just how much he loved his speech (it involves masturbation):

The real John McCain's message:

And Jason Sudeikis' Joe Biden:

And a montage of great SNL election moments, introduced by Obama and McCain:

Thank God America got it right...I don't think the last string of sanity Bush left me with could suffer through a Palin Doctrine !

Palin sounded like a complete vindictive b*tch and few people were laughing. Glad that Obama/Biden won!

Tina Fey said she would leave earth rather than play Palin for four more years. Well don't go into orbit Tina. Sarah has been dispatched back to Alaska where she can sit on her porch with real Americans and watch for Putin. I'm sure it wasn't easy playing a bigot in soft light.

We do owe Sarah Palin a debt of gratitude for what she did for the ratings of 30 Rock! :P

People who we laugh AT, can very rarely make us laugh.
Palin is a joke, but she can not tell one.

Palin's sketch did not seem to elicit any audience laughter - they were probably real scared listening to her. Her words were too believable. Not humorous at all! Scary woman!

But they did laugh once . . . unfortunately for her, it was during the line where she said she was going to be at the inauguration and would be the vice president.

(Seriously, that was where she got the most laughs. Watch the tape again and listen closely. It was kind of awesome. Well, awesome for those of us who really dislike her.)

Palin was not the least bit funny. She came off as one of those angry people who are being polite in public but are fuming beneath their veneered exterior. Vindictive is a word that comes to mind, actually.

I'm sure everyone has been around a person who is angry about something but won't admit it. You know, you ask them, "I feel that you're upset about something. Wan't to talk about it?" And their response is to smile plastically and say, "I'm fine. Nothing's wrong." You know they're lying but you cannot break their shell, and you also know it's going to be a long, cold, silent night in their presence.

This hostile, suppressed person is Palin and her reaction to the "liberal elite media" who has so unfairly atacked her. That feeling came shining through in her reaction to the prank callers, when she thought she was talking to a safe, conservative, sympathetic person (Sarkozy) who's undergone his own share of media trial by fire. She complained about the "unfair media attacks". Well, as another famous woman recently said about this topic, get out of the kitchen if you can't stand the heat. "Unfair media attacks" come with the terrain of high political office, especially when you run on your personality more than on issues and knowledge of national affairs.

Palin is chilling. Good thing she'll lose.

Did anyone else think Palin's bit fell flat; wasn't funny at all?

I think it's because it's because it all sounded so true. She sounded serious. And I believe that is exactly what she would do. Maybe it was the delivery. Maybe if Tina Fey had done it instead it would have been funny. Palin doing it just sounded like a Fascist warning us what would happen if we didn't shut up and go away.

Yeah, I thought so too. She was not joking.

I also was totally creeped out by Palin, she did not seem to be 'playing' the faux dictator but had a snarky look on her face the entire time. It was such a strong feeling I thought I had to be overreacting, but now reading all these comments, I think, there's gotta be something to it. Because when McCain appeared on SNL in 2006 and played the creepy psycho husband it only endeared him to me for being willing to play a part like that.

This has been a great year for SNL. Their skits were hilarious. My favorite is the Alaska Rap. What a hoot!

I will be so glad when the election is over and SNL can stop spewing the political schmaltz they have been dishing out and go back to their mediocre ratings and relative obscurity.

I am SOOOOOO ready for Sarah Palin to be out of the national spotlight.

Palin was not funny. She was spooky. Maybe she thought it was still Halloween? Next time SNL wants to do a Sarah Palin bit they need to have Tina Fey do it.
