Bold-faced names gathered on election night at parties around the country. In Chicago Oprah joined in the celebration in Grant Park. Viewing parties in New York hosted by Comedy Central and another by Harvey Weinstein were hot tickets.

That was not ALL BLACK PEOPLE. It is sad that the Mormon Church bankrolled this proposition, operating from outside the state of California, and it's sad that Black and Latino evangelicals did turn out to vote for it.

It's also sad to get caught up in condemning groups of people wholesale. We now have to talk to evangelicals and see if we can find common ground on civil rights.

If Obama had supported gay marriage and had opposed, instead of avoided, Proposition 8, he would have lost the election. The issues and goals of Democrats come light years before those of gay marriage militants.

It's unfortunate that M1 needs to insult every African-American in our country by drawing the ridiculous comparison of the 'injustice' of CA voters rejecting same-sex marriage versus the real and immense injustices that black people have had to endure for the past several hundred years. And it's despicably elitist when those of M1's brand militancy transmogrify black people into reactionaries, just because the latter won't cow tow to the former's whining.

Actually though, M1's flaming tantrums serve only to further marginalize his (or her) viewpoint. Reasonable supporters of gay unions already know that civil unions, with all of the benefits of marriage, save for the term itself , are the only politically viable option.

I'm not gay, but I am really disturbed about the result of prop 8. And learning who voted it down. It does kind of tarnish the "feel good" vibe a little bit. Discrimination is discrimination.

Your struggle is a matter of time. As a divorced hetero, I don't know what your hurry is, but whatever. Marriage is not a panacea, trust. If I were you, I'd be a lot more interested in civil unions.

The opposition will be gone in 10 years. They are dying out. Thank whoever. It's very similar to Roe v. Wade. I go to these anti-abortion websites and what offends me more than all the abortions performed and their absolute hate for privacy, is the crassness of those who film dead fetuses and their treatment of them on film. I am so totally "ELATED" over President-Elect Barack Obama! I watched on TV as Senator Obama was declared "THE WINNER" and I felt as though I was actually witnessing an "out-of-body experience". The lirics from three old songs instantly came to my mind: Stephanie Mills (remember her), "I FEEL GOOD, I FEEL GOOD ALL OVER"; Roberta Flack, "TO DREAM THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM"; and Gladys Knight, "I FEEL A SONG IN MY HEART AGAIN"! I awoke this morning with a burst of energy that at first I couldn't fathom, and then it "HIT" me - Barack Obama is now my President and will be for at least the next four years (Praise God and if it be His will)! I realize that this is "day one" of the beginning and the road may be tough, but I'm inspired and I'm ready! "BRING IT ON"! I truly hope that all of you out there share my feelings of "elation" on this "historical, long awaited event". May God bless Barack Obama, President of the United States of America and may God "help" President Obama "help" America.
