Oprah screamed with joy
on her post-election show

On Wednesday's "The View" Sherri Shepherd shed tears of joy.

More reaction from Us:

"I'm vibrating," Winfrey told Usmagazine.com.

How will she celebrate?

"Just to be fully present. I'm just trying to take it all in," she told Us. "I can't even talk about it."

"This has been the greatest experience of my lifetime," she told reporters. "I haven't seen a sense of unity like this since 9/11. Now, we're all brought together in the name of hope."

(At one point during her night, she was mobbed by the media when she left the National Finance Committee party to use the bathroom. "I've never used a Porta-Potty before!" she joked.)

As for Winfrey's pal Gayle King?

"On a scale of 1 to 10, I've got to be a 15!" she told Us.

Brad Pitt also couldn't contain his excitement.

Asked how he was feeling earlier in the night (as early projections signaled an Obama victory), Pitt (in a gray trench coat, minus Angelina Jolie) told a reporter, "I'll be a lot happier in about an hour-and-a-half!"

From People:

Actor George Clooney: "I congratulate President-elect Obama on his historic victory, and now it's time to begin unifying the country so we can take on the extraordinary challenges that this generation faces."

• Singer Usher: "This will go down in history, in black history, for all of the sacrifices that the great Joseph Lowery and Martin Luther King made, this actually pays off for their sacrifice. ... I'm speechless. I don't even know what to say."

• Music mogul Diddy: "I felt like my vote was the vote that put him into office. ... And that may not be true but that's how much power it felt like I had."

• Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz to PEOPLE: "My parents met working for [Obama's running mate on one of his early campaigns]. If it weren't for Joe Biden, I would not exist as a human being. ... I am proud to be a part of history in the making."

From the NYDN:

"I'm so excited right now," Ethan Hawke told us at Comedy Central's blast at The Park. "I got up at 7:20 this morning, and I voted for Barack. I haven't had this much optimism in a long time. Tonight is historic!"...

Amber Lee Ettinger aka Obama Girl burst into tears at the barelypolitical.com party at Haven when her man was named the new president of the United States. "This is the day I've been waiting for," she told us.

Jessica Alba, "I was surprised that McCain brought race into his speech. I guess he was trying to bring people together."

But "30 Rock" star Jack McBrayer was smiling, and not because he'd won a political tee. Summing it up, the funnyman told us, "We're all winners tonight."

More:

Oprah: "There are not even words to talk about what this night means. It's one of the greatest moments I could ever imagine. That's how great it is."

Madonna: "I'm so f--ing happy right now"

Lindsay Lohan: "YES WE CAN."

Samantha Ronson: "YES WE DID!!"

Kanye West: "HI MOM, OBAMA WON!" (His mom passed away about a year ago.)

Usher: "Isn't this incredible news? Man, this is incredible. It's so incredible to see that this historical thing has happened."

all of this is great to read. people in the entertainment world being "energized' to reacting in this way. for 2 years, now, i saw NOTHING but the "image" of obama standing in the front of the White House. so, for me it was exciting, for sure but just as much it was "i told you so."

the same golden electric current (that this IS right) struck all of these people and then some. it reached around the world, electrifying EVERYONE who opposed the ways of our government for 8 years and more. obama's win, if you look at it from that viewpoint - a golden current of electricity that EMPOWERED everyone who had a thinking heart. that is why so many shed uncontrollable tears. that is why those tears symbolically "wash away" the old (the bush cronies and all the toxic effect they had on not only the usa - but the world at large) and bring on the new. our new president will have a helluva difficult job. but our tears are testimony that we trust that he WILL surround himself with brilliance, rather than thieves and greed-mongers. those tears are our personal, individual, expression of trust that he will prioritize the healing from the bottom up. the repressed, the forgotten and the countless disenfranchised... all of us see his light and will follow to be "part of the healing." thank you president obama for YOU being YOU. ~d. michele vicari, northern virginia.

Celebrities are citizens, too! Many of them donated and held fundraisers, and supported O and his campaign. Their joy is as real as ours.

Note to Lohan: Obama doesn't support gay marriage.

But he does support civil unions. In fact, this was the same position that Hillary Clinton and John Edwards had as well. Like Clinton and Edwards, Obama supports a very aggressive policy giving gays and lesbians the kinds of rights heterosexials like myself take for granted. I disagree with his gay marriage position, but at least gays and lesbians will have much, much more than they would under John McCain.

I'm sure Lohan knows this and appreciates what gays and lesbians will have under Obama that they don't have under Bush, and would continue not to have under McCain.

They all support civil unions.

Level the playing field by eliminating the civil recognition of marriage, make them all civil unions and leave marriage up to the private parties religious ceremony of choice. Spare us all the divorce lawyers and force them to get a real job.

Now lets get behind him and help him by supporting the popular as well as the unpopular things he's gonna have to do.

Just cracked myself up thinking about my Mom watching the election returns with Paul in heaven. As a girl born and raised on the south side of chicago in 1918 she would have loved Obama and I hate the fact that she didn't live to see him elected and speaking at grant park last night.

Republicans hate celebrities like Paul Newman, Brad Pitt, the Dixie Chicks, and Springsteen because Republican celebrities(Arnold, Hank Williams Jr., Dennis Miller et. al) are talentless turds. It's not a matter of politics it's a matter of jealousy and envy.

I feel the same way. Though I know my vote was just one of many that helped put President Elect Obama over the top, I was desperate to vote. I would have driven over a dozen old ladies on the side walk to get to the polling place. It meant that much to me to vote.

This comment is off topic but I want to say it anyhow.

I keep hearing and reading that Obama won because 97% of African Americans voted for him...Well that is true but African Americans also have voted for every single White Democratic President 95% of the time for the past century.

Oh BTW, African Americans make up about 17% of the US population so more Whites and Latinos voted for Obama than Blacks did. So, instead of hating why don't you use your time wisely and brush up on some history and facts.

I agree with you there! People in the media keep saying that blacks are just voted for Obama because he is black, which is not really true when you compare it to all the other times most blacks voted for a Democratic Candidate in the past.

I do not believe Obama would have gotten 97% of the AA vote had he been a right wing Republican.
