I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Keith Olbermann has long gone after his 8PM competition at Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, but Wednesday night he started a new line of attack — against CNN's 8PM host Campbell Brown.

Olbermann chided Brown for mistakenly claiming that the last time the same party controlled the White House, the Senate and the House was under Jimmy Carter.

"The talking point got out enough that the anchor of another news broadcast at this hour reported yesterday that last time it happened it," — and here Olbermann turned on his Brown impression — "didn't go so well, and people who have been worried about the possibility of one party controlling the White House and Congress. 'The last president to do that, of course, was Jimmy Carter.' Swing and a miss. Her colleague tried to correct her. 'Bill Clinton.' Swing and another miss. Correct answer: George W. Bush, that current guy. Early 2001 and again from 2003-2006."

It is more of a correction than an attack.
KO attacks more vividly.

What Campbell Brown did was very Fox-News-esque. By stating that the last time all three branches were in control of one party, it was the "wacky, extreme, liberal, socialist left," Jimmy Carter, and then Bill Clinton. I find it hard to believe that she can't remember that just 2 years ago, all three branches were under control of Bush & Co. This was deliberate, I think. Olbermann was fully justified in going as harsh as he did on her and CNN.

CNN belatedly produces a program aimed at filtering BS... in the very final days of the Bush administration. What a coincidence.

Typical Olberslob nonsense. This is how he gets ratings, by making a j ack a s s of himself. I'm looking forward to the day when GE shareholders remove the current CEO and they get someone in there who knows how to run a business. On that day I'll be screaming "FOR THIS RELIEF MUCH THANKS" as I watch Olberslob and his friend, Madcow, frog-marched out of AMessNBC headquarters under security guard watch.

Funny, you are waiting for Olberman and Maddow to be marched out of MSNBC under security guard watch for giving their opinion, while I hoped for the day Bush, Karl Rove, Cheney and all the other criminals in the WH were marched out the same, you know, the people who have ran this country into the gutter for eight looooong years.

Never fear, it's not over yet, in fact I bet the next four years will enlighten us into just how far the Bush administration over reached with power and greed.

Wouldn't it be nice if we worried less about liberal and conservative and more about truth? I wish Keith would turn it down about 20 notches, but he's certainly easier to watch than most of the other crapfests on the TV.

I personally don't know what I would have done w/out Olbermann (and Rachel) during the election season. Countdown was my nightly dose of sanity. Who else on TV was exposing the other side's constant barrage dirty tactics, lies and distortions?! I will always be thankful to both of them.

network newsies that don't remember conditions of 18 months ago are diletante script readers who ought to be shamed. If it's preying on the revealed inadequacies of the competition, that's better than competing for viewers by hiring more or better eye-candy.

In an era when "news" is universally dumbing down, reviving competion on the basis of better knowledge and quality is always to be applauded. If should be a regular feature--maybe even the subject of regular "Comment". And, no, they shouldn't be expected to criticize themselves but others could if they had the talent to recognize errors.

I would definitely say that to use the word "attack" in this case is overly dramatic. Corrections are not attacks, even when there is sarcasm interjected.

“I would definitely say that to use the word "attack" in this case is overly dramatic. Corrections are not attacks, even when there is sarcasm interjected” ----TheBrizz, I totally agree with you. I am a huge fan of HuffPost but I and many others have questioned this headline. I refuse to believe they dislike MSNBC or Keith and certainly not Rachel Maddow. But it seems they’ve got a pro CNN thing going on as of late. Favorable headlines for Campbell Brown and Rick Sanchez. But when Keith corrects Campell, it becomes an "attack" headline. Go figure?

There is nothing wrong with media Commentators having opinions and expressing them. My choices are Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and Rachael Maddow and I applaud MSNBC. CNN should give Cafferty more air time but liberal is not on their agenda. As much as I disagree with Scarborough, they allow him to express his opinions and make a fool of himself. I believe in freedom of speech and would rather see a better balance of liberal ideas. But the FOX news nuts have a right to exist and make fools of themselves. However, they DON’T have the right to yell fire in a crowded theater and somehow that must be stopped!
There is a big difference between Commentators who are allowed to express their own opinions, the few objective News Moderators still out there and the TALKING HEADS PRENTENDING TO BE OBJECTIVE. The talking heads are not commentators, objective news people or journalists - they are script readers for their corporate bosses and CNN is by far the worst violator. Anyone who can’t recognize their subtle way of spinning the news to promote the corporate status-quo agenda is brain dead. If you don’t mind being spun, that’s okay. But don’t make a fool of yourself trying to convince others that CNN is fair and balanced! Campbell Brown, Rick Sanchez, Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer and all the others were hired for one reason. They are willing to follow the corporate agenda and do as they are told.

Campbell Brown's level of bias is becoming incredibly obvious. Her suggestion that the flap over Palin's clothes budget resulted from discrimination, because women in high profile jobs have to dress well, was both ridiculous and offensive to me as a woman. I have a job that can be "profile" too. I can dress myself for far less than $150,000 a year, let alone a month! And Brown's outrage about sexism is more than a little late - sexism from the McCain campaign is news? If they didn't think that disappointed Hilary voters would vote for Palin based on gender alone, would they have nominated this rankly unqualified person in the first place? CNN needs to replace her, or at least change the name of her show to "all bias, and however much bull I can throw in,"....

Right on. If you are in a high profile role, sure you have to dress professionally, but you don't have to spend gobs of someone else's money to do it. CB is dead ass wrong on all counts.
