WWD:

Could we see Michelle Obama on the cover of Vogue soon after the inauguration of her husband, President-elect Barack Obama? The next first lady appeared on a slew of magazine covers as the presidential race entered its last months. But Vogue has been campaigning for a Michelle Obama cover since last September -- both in print and in person. Editor in chief Anna Wintour and contributing editor Andr Leon Talley hosted several fund-raisers for the Obamas last summer, rallying the fashion community's support for the Illinois senator. The magazine profiled Michelle Obama in its September issue and featured her as an It girl in the April one. Obama campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett was profiled in October. Vogue even spread its affections to the Democratic vice presidential candidate -- the magazine photographed in November four generations of Biden women, including Vice President-elect Joe Biden's wife, Jill. (Vogue showed some love to the Republican ladies, too. Cindy McCain was profiled in the May issue and Roberta McCain was featured in the August Age issue.)

Vogue really ticked me off with the article they ran against Clinton and I waited all this time before deciding whether or not to renew my subscription, finally deciding to renew just for the articles I think they will run on President Obama, First Lady Michelle, their children and the new government. Don't let me down. And please, no more hack jobs on former presidents, including Bush II.

Michelle is my girl and all, but the dress was awful. Today she had a baseball cap on her head. Come on girl the world is looking at you all the time now. You know that America can be shallow at times. So get with it.

She should absolutely be on the cover of Vogue as well as having a detailed story of her life accomplishments along with the interests to be championed within her husbands administration.
I only have one request, DO NOT LET ANDREA LEON TALLEY DRESS HER. He did a horrible job on Jennifer Hudson. Michelle is a classic and I feel he would not promote or bring out this quality in her. She is married to the most powerful man in the world and she should look the part without diverting her attention from her individual style. This is not the job for him.

Thank you.

i felt that the black & red narciso rodriguez dress was perhaps an attempt to serve a new kind of modern, glamorous, bob mackie-esque afrocentricity - using color combinations and dimensions that michelle's "white lady" peers might not choose in that instance.
someone probably panicked at the last minute re: the bare arms and threw on that old cardigan, justifying that it was a tested "michelle O" trademark.
trademark it may be, bt the sweater did ruin the impact of the dress.

as far as vogue is concerned:
i certainly did not realize that wintour's vogue was "throwing obama benefits" this summer.
after royally dissing hillary clinton for declining to pose on vogue for the 3rd time and then publishing the lebron james "king kong" cover, mrs. wintour was *not* the one people were checking for to be championing the obamas' ascent to the white house!
the highly influential andre leon talley is an indefatigable soldier in style's trenches and i thank him for his work @ vogue re: Black visibility.
his jennifer hudson styling fiasco notwithstanding, mr. talley is a national treasure and the real, true pearl of righteousness & rigor.
go andre!
go michelle!
i say michelle should ditch vogue completely and go to harper's bazaar -
- only after "covering" ebony, essence, jet, upscale & Black Hair magazine!

I hope they get her some new clothes. That red and black dress was horrible.

Andre will go "star trek" on Michelle, just like he did with Jennifer. No, I want a new direction in the first lady's style but I don't want Andre to influence this new direction.

I think she should be on the cover of Vogue. She's a very classy and stylish lady.

I think she should do it and I think she needs to really work with better designers. Designers that understand a more curvy and taller woman.

OK, first of all, the he ll with Vogue. Michelle is NOT Cindy McCain, who would be angling for the gig. That's one of the many reasons I admire Michelle Obama.

The read dress she wore was atrocious and distracting. When she first appeared I thought she was in a halloween costume. She had lots of time to think about what she was going to wear and decided to make a silly fashion statement on a very important night.

This is why women are sometimes not taken seriously -- they try too hard to make an impression with their hair, clothes, etc. They hold themselves up for ridicule and them cry "sexism" when their sartorial risks fail.

I hope Michelle Obama chooses more flattering and appropriate outfits in the future because she is much too intelligent and dignified to become a fashion distraction. While sometimes she looks fabulous (convention speech, The View, Tonight Show) I have cringed several times at her more regrettable choices.

I couldnt agree more with her choice of dress but is ok at least she can walk with ease and style not like an automaton like Cindy McCain so still I wonder if she always wears a corset . Michelle can learn and be more fabulous

I can't remember when the last African-american woman appeared on the cover of Vogue. Michelle Obama on the cover of Vogue would be such a wonderful thing for all of us who are not the typical representation of that which is considered beautiful by the industry. I love Beyonce but there are so many other beautiful women of color who never grace the cover of such publications. The future first lady definitley deserves the honor of an appearance on and in Vogue and many other publications.

Has Halle been on Vogue? I know she is bi-racial but she did an Oscar as a "black" woman.

Jennifer Hudson graced the cover of Vogue in March of 2007.

Michelle - don't go on the cover of fashion magazines, please. The cover of Economist, or Family Health, or Military Life or something connected to substance. You are outstanding in your own right, so chosen media appraches that nwill further your interests. Don't expose yourself to the charge that you are vapid, from those who will object that you bought ridiculous clothes while the economy shed another million jobs & 1/4 of all home owners hae lost all the equity in their homes. Save it for the second term. People are suffering now. What would Eleanor Roosevelt have done???

I was thinking the same she should avoid cover of glossy sexist magazines that only promote a clonish image of what the ideal woman should look like. In any case there ar emor eimportant issues that the Obamas would be focusing on.

The fate of the world hinges on the question raised by your headline. If she does not appear on the Vogue cover, there should be a federal investigation on the scale of the 9/11 commission.
