Wall Street Journal:

Barack Obama is the first sitting senator since John F. Kennedy to be elected president, and in the wake of his historical election floats a crucial question: Who will take his place as senator?

Kennedy was succeeded in the Senate by his Harvard roommate, Benjamin A. Smith II, who filled the slot until Kennedy's brother, Edward Kennedy, was old enough to run for the office. So if history is any guide, Democratic Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich will appoint a Democrat close to Obama.

Obama's White House Cabinet needs to be as DIVERSE as our nation. What I am seeing and reading about who is getting BIG jobs, troubles me deeply.

They always speak about bipartisan and nonpartisan politics when they need the other side, but when they don't they are as partisan as they come.

Former Gov Jim Edgar made a pretty astute observation. Anybody appointed by Blagojevich is going to have the Blagojevich stink on him or her when he or she runs for the seat in 2010. It sure would be a challenge for the nominee to avoid having his or her picture taken with the nominator, arguably the most reviled governor in Illinois history.

And now Rahm's seat is available as well.

I hope Tammy Duckworth gets one of the seats. Though I don't know if she qualifies for Rahm's.
