Rahm Emanuel's Constituents React To His New Job

Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel has accepted Barack Obama's offer to become White House Chief of Staff. And that leaves Illinois' 5th congressional district seat in limbo.

Emanuel's constituents in the 5th district re-elected to him to office Tuesday. Less than than two days later, he's decided to join President-Elect Barack Obama's administration. In Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, which is in Emanuel's congressional district, residents like Don Shapiro have mixed feelings about the situation.

I know there are some Democrats/liberals who have some beef with Rahm for his stance on immigration reform back in 2006. Some claim that his views on Dem support for reform would have repercussions in the Congressional races (again, 2006), and for individuals to steer clear on commenting on their stance.

However, I don't think it is that divisive of a choice. Rahm is a very intelligent individual who can offer much to Obama's administration.

While I completely understand the sense of pride Chicagoans (?) must feel, so much talent from one city, but this is the big time now and American needs to borrow your heroes for awhile, we're in BIG trouble. So if Barack says he needs Rahm, wish him well and say good bye for now. Arizona is, in all likelihood losing the ONE really great politician out of it's entire state gov't...and she happened to be our chief executive, we're losing our Dem Govenor Janet Napolitano. We're a state dominated by LAME brained GOP thugs (obviously) and the voters of this state, in their infinite stupidity, have just re elected most of them. That being said, we sacrifice what we can for the "cause" ... saving the country and saving the world. And so it goes... let the adventure begin.
