Votes are still being counted in some races in last Tuesday's election, but no matter: talk of the potential Republicans field in the 2012 presidential election is already underway.

Too early?

Too bad - just look around.

Two potential candidates will be in Iowa before month's end, multiple prospects - almost certainly including Sarah Palin - will make high-profile appearances next week at the Republican Governor's Association (RGA) meeting and Newt Gingrich's name has already being floated in a Bob Novak column.

To all of you who criticize Huckabee. Shame on you! Making fun of him because he's a Christian.
Why don't you try Huckabee....he may probably improve your country. Please don't make fun of
Christianity. We're not perfect, but at least we know where we are going someday.

The Republicans made a big mistake for not nominating Huckabee. A lot of Americans
thought that he could only win in the South.Look what happened, McCain didn't even win
Florida, NC, and Virginia.

Until the GOP realizes that the 'cold war, vietnam war, reagan' generation is over, nothing will change for them.
This is the post cold war, post vietnam, post reagan era and the last thing America needs is a bunch of OLD MEN pushing OUT OF DATE ideas.

At this point, who knows if or what the gop will be.... As for who or what? Who cares other than the sourpuss lemonsuckers at this point?

What does it take to discourage these chirpy far right people? Huckabee and Palin and others apparently think this election was just an anomaly. I hope they're wrong, but I'll try not to forget the redness of that large area of the US. Some people still believe all the drivel Palin fed them- already believed before her- will continue to believe it even if Obama manages to do a fantastic job for the US. And the state of Christianity in the US is alarming. Go into one of those megachurches and you'll see what I mean. Jesus has been de-emphasized and politics are often the real agenda. Jesus was a PC liberal kind of guy. They want something more like the Crusades, the Inquistion, the Salem Witch Trials. Something to get the people excited and donating enough money to build those huge buildings.

Yeah yeah yeah.

These are the types of mainstream media stories that are merely mental "self-pleasure." Everyone and their brother said after 2004 that it was almost a lead-pipe cinch that the 2008 race was going to be Giuliani versus Hillary. How'd that work out?

Here's my stupid pick for 2012: Chuck Norris versus Ben Affleck (Obama refuses to run for a 2nd term saying "there is no intelligent life here in Congress.")

LOL, true. Besides, Palin and Huckabee believe the earth is 6000 years old.... Which would be funny were it not so utterly ignorant. Still, ignorance is curable.... so either or both could re-invent themselves.....naw, that's just more pundit conjecture and, LOL, we all know how silly that usually turns out....

Nothing makes us hold on tightly to a brilliant, extraordinarily competent new employee who's loaded with integrity more than the backdrop of an extraordinarily incompetent employee who was severely lacking in integrity. And that's true about any job, no matter how big or how small.

The only Republican they could run against Obama with any hope of winning in 2012 is Jesus Christ.... oh yeah, I almost forgot, Jesus is clearly a democrat. Sorry Charlies, there's no room in America's white house for a republican until after (and probably LONG after) Obama has given us a full eight years.

And then, even then, it better be someone extraordinarily competent and absolutely loaded with integrity. And so far, there's no such animal in the republican party. Which is why I WANT Palin to run in 2016 and 2020 and 2024 and 2028.... she's young and funny, we can enjoy her every four years for many years to come if we do this right. :))

2012??! More like, 2016 because Obama/Biden will be here for two terms... so get used to the idea~ AND, I hope by then the Repubs would have taken a page or two out of Obama's book on how to not to run a campaign... The word Inclusion was missing from McCain/Palin and that's a fact!!!

What is all this 2012 speculation? Obama will be a 2-term president so all these wanabees need to settle down till 2016.

I do expect to see Huckabee challenging Obama in 2012. Not because Obama will be regarded as an bad president by then. But because it will give him a jump on 2016. I also expect to see Gov. Bobby Jindal, because he is a Southerner, a man of color, and a conservative.

There is also a possibility that we'll see these folks: former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, an African-American, and the director of GOPAC, and even Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, a blogging enthusiast who teaches a class about the blogosphere. Moreover, to make sure the party doesn't veer too much to the right, we'll see Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, and quite possibly Gov. Linda Lingle of Hawaii. Lingle is probably being talked about because she is a bi-partisan govenor who works with the Democratic-controlled state legislature...and...because she is govenor of Obama's home state.

So yes, don't expect to see Palin in four years. Expect to see Palin in 2016, at the end of Obama's second term as president. That is the assumption I'm working with here.

Huckabilly a future leader of the GOP? Guess the repugs missed a central mandate of this election: "Christian Leader for President" has been totally rejected. The conservatives will remain out of power until they realize that the United States is a secular society with a core value of Separation of Church and State. The Chr!stian Extremists will never seize power (thank God). http://au.org
