Nicole Kidman To Play Transsexual Married To Charlize Theron

Nicole Kidman as the world's first post-op transsexual, married to Charlize Theron? You betcha.

The Australian actress will star in and produce "The Danish Girl," based on the true story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Their marriage took a sharp left turn after Einar (Kidman) stood in for a female model that Greta (Theron) was set to paint.

When their portraits become wildly popular in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta encouraged her husband to adopt the female guise. What began as a harmless game led Einer to a metamorphosis and landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world and threatened their love.

Oh, please. Like them or not, Kidman and Theron are both immensely talented actresses who aren't afraid to take on difficult and controversial roles that go beyond the traditional pretty face roles most Hollywood starlets flock to.
And, Theron ALREADY won an Academy Award for her portrayal of a serial killer in "Monster". She was nominated for another Oscar and has been in more than 35 films.
Kidman has also won an Oscar and was nominated for another. She's been in more than 52 films.

If anyone should play the transgender role it should be Theron who's the better actor of the two and has a slightly more masculine build, not to mention functioning facial muscles. I agree, Kidman keeps bashing us over the head with her obvious artistic choices. I can't take seriously a thespian who manipulates her physical appearance the way she has but then wants to be considered a serious character actor. Baz Luhrman should have chosed Naomi Watts for the Australia role.

Transgender is not the same as transsexual. There is some overlap but typically transgenders do not have the surgery.

both "transgender" and "transsexual" are used differently by different people. even people with contradictory definitions will insist that theirs is the "true" definition, so don't assume that it means the same thing that someone else told you it means. generally -

- if someone is obviously presenting in a traditionally gendered way (concerning clothing, accessories, make-up, haircut, etc.), you should probably use the pronouns typically associated with that gender.

- if you're not sure which pronouns to use, ask (privately if it might be embarrassing)

- it's rude to ask people about their genitals. if/when you need to know their surgical status, you'll know. until then, don't ask and don't assume.

I totally agree with everything you wrote. Most of being a great actress is having wonderful expression. Nicole Kidman will not be able to convey a thought with a look since she can't move her face.

I was ashamed of Nicole for taking the role with the 10 yr old in the bath tub with her. There was a protest against it but I rented it to see what the hoopla was about. As a mother, I don't know why she took that role.
