McAuliffe Virginia Governor Run: Papers Filed

RICHMOND, Va. — Former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe signed papers Monday signaling a possible run for governor next year in Virginia.

McAuliffe told The Associated Press he set up a campaign committee and will tour Virginia for the next 60 days before making his candidacy certain.

He signed papers setting up his committee after a series of barnstorming campaign appearances across the state on behalf of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

McAuliffe would face two other Democrats already in the governor's race. State Senator Creigh Deeds narrowly lost the attorney general's race in 2005, and House Democratic Caucus chairman Brian Moran is also in the race.

The best candidate for Virginia Governor is Brian Moran. Creigh Deeds is also running, but he has already lost to the likely Republican candidate once in a statewide election for attorney general--even as Virginia elected a Democratic governor.

Moran is the brother of a popular Democratic congressman, and a good candidate. Donate money. We can't afford to lose this one.

If he actually lives in Nothern Va (as I do), I seriously doubt he could convince even NoVa voters that he knows the state well enough to govern.

My family is long-standing democrat, 10+ year NoVa transplants, active in the DC political world and I don't think we'd even vote for him.

Go piss off, try to find a noble hobby/job for a while, then see if you've recovered the integrity & sense to deserve office.

I live in VA and I will campaign hard AGAINST McAuliffe. He acted a damn fool in his defense of Hillary during the primaries. He was more than insulting to President-Elect Obama.

Is he even a Virginian? We aren't really into electing opportunists here. If he's a "Come Here," he better have come here a long time ago to be in the running. Otherwise the Republicans will win the Governor's Mansion. That's likely anyway. It's tradition here to elect a governor from the party that does not control the White House.

This is going nowhere. The one thing I think McAuliffe will accomplish is for people to go "what the hell?" and then start checking out Deeds and Moran with new seriousness. I think that's about as much of an effect as McAuliffe will have--to send people fleeing in other directions. If he thinks Virginia would ever vote for him he doesn't know Virginia at all.

I think it was Moran (va's 8th delegate? maybe state senate? anyway..), who was outside my polling station in 2004.

He was urging people to vote dem b/c the guy replacing him on the GOP ticket was an undeserving idiot (not his words, but the sentiment was clear.) It could have been 'revenge', but he seemed to be doing it out concern for the state.

If that was him, I'd vote for him.

Under Virginia law, Gov Kaine cannot run for a second consecutive term. I'm not sure about running in the future, tho.
