As his presidency nears its end, a reflective President Bush suggested Tuesday he regrets some of his more blunt statements on the war on terror over the last eight years.

"I regret saying some things I shouldn't have said," Bush told CNN's Heidi Collins Twhen asked to reflect on his regrets over his two terms as president. "Like 'Dead or Alive' and 'Bring 'em on.' My wife reminded me that, hey, as president of the United States be careful what you say."

Well, love him or hate him, the time is coming near to say goodbye to George W. Bush. I would like to extend an invitation to anyone who has something to say to this President to post an open letter to GW at http://goodbye.us . This is a project to essentially create a time capsule of feelings and thoughts about the outgoing administration. So please, check it out and share!

He doesn't regret THINKING it and ACTING on it, he just regrets GETTING CAUGHT in the consequences.

REGRETS? REALLY?

Bush apparently only “regrets” wild overstatements like “Mission Accomplished” and utterly juvenile utterances like “Bring it on!” His regrets seem to be of the "sorry I got caught" variety.

Since Bush apparently has little regret for the havoc he caused, I wonder . . .

if the Justices who intervened in the Florida election have regrets for putting him in power.

if the families of 9/11 victims have regrets since we now know it was due in part to ignoring warnings.

if the 96% of the country who favored the President after 9/11 are now embarrassed and regret ever having been so mislead, often by lies.

if the thousands killed and maimed in trumped up wars driven by Bush’s ego regret his catastrophes committed while playing at warrior-in-chief.

if the families of future terrorist attacks will regret the thousands of new terrorists created by Bush’s bombings, pre-emptive invasions, torturings, impoverishments, and emasculations.

if the millions who lost their jobs, savings, and homes to his disastrous financial policies and greed have regrets.

if our children who must pay the enormous debt he created will regret their forebearers.

It's sad that child of privilege and entitlement seems to have learned so little. He seems blind or indifferent to the astonishingly destruction he brought. Even more worrisome, his followers seem to have no regrets other than they lost an election. As the sages say, you can never cure a problem until you finally admit you have one.

Mr. Bush, you should regret every moment of your existence since you put down your copy of 'My Pet Goat' on the morning of 9/11/01.

He said he regrets that the "mission accomplished" banner was there. How about regretting waging a war of misinformation against the American people to lead them to an unnecessary war? How about regretting the illegal torture of prisoners, and Guantanamo? He has much more to regret...but he is incapable of introspection or reflection, much less any real remorse. And honestly right now, who cares what he regrets? He should be working hard for his last days as president to try to undo the damage he's done--instead he's focused on deregulating environmental regulations. He will never change.

This is nothing new - he has "regretted" saying these things numerous times in the past, including once at a press conference with Tony Blair. When he 'regrets' starting an unjustified war, creating the largest federal debt ever, torture, presiding over and helping to create an economic disaster, etc etc ... oh well, he's never going to 'regret' any of those things anyway. Good riddance, and welcome Obama.

Isn't it a little early to be reminiscing, Mr. President? You're still on the job for another 69 days, and you've already checked out. How about doing the job you were elected to do? The country is going dow n the tubes, and you do nothing, nada, zilch. If you've already checked out, resign NOW and let President Obama get on with it.

Not as much as these people and their families regret your phoney war George:

U.S. MILITARY DEATHS (IRAQ): 4,193
U.S. MILITARY WOUNDED (IRAQ): 30,774
IRAQI CIVILIAN DEATHS: 151,000
'EXCESS' IRAQI DEATHS: 655,000

I know everyone is trying to be "nice" and move on in a bipartisan manner, but here's the problem with leaving such massive lies and illegal acts unaddressed: Unless there are real consequences for the people with power who commit these acts, people with power will keep committing these same sorts of wrongful acts, again, and again, and again . . . because they know they won't be held accountable.

That means more unnecessary and pointless foreign wars, deaths, destruction, and waste of money that is desperately needed back home.

The Rule of Law means nothing unless those with power are held to full account when they break our laws.

Bush Administration officils broke our laws and contemptiously thumbed their noses at our Constitution, and our government and our People ignore these unlawful acts at their extreme peril, as if unaddressed these lows become the new normal in government conduct.

Well said, Moshe. While I understand the need to heal the enormous rifts and wounds left by the Bush Administration, I firmly believe that part of the healing process should include bringing to justice those who created the rifts by treating our Constitution as so much Charmin. Nothing can bring back the dead or restore the maimed to their former condition, but until the guilty are held to account, this country will not be able to move forward in peace.

What a callous man. All he can come up to regret are unfortunate statements, not taking the country to war under false pretenses, illegal domestic surveillance, torture, rendition, signing statements, Katrina, cronyism, the mortage meltdown or the collapse of the financial markets. What a legacy indeed.

Hopefully those who voted for "the candidate they can see themselves having a beer with" with realize that perhaps they should base their decision for LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD on some criterion other than "Is this guy an Average Joe?".

All the more so since he never was the "Average Joe". He was born into a New England elite old-money family. Luxury and priviledge are all he knows. The guy doesn't have a clue about anything that normal, everyday working Americans face in their lives. One of the biggest con jobs in history was passing thsi punk off as "one of us". He could never be one of us--we're better than that.
