Laura Bush Having Greater Success Than George Shopping Memoir

President Bush's plans to pen a memoir of his time in office may have been curtailed, but he's not going to be able to take comfort in the fact that a down economy has the publishing world bearish on presidential remembrances anymore. Because while he can't even get wingnut welfare imprint Regnery Publishing to take his phone calls, his wife is setting up a deal for her own book that looks like a towering pile of dollar bills:

LAURA Bush is lining up a multimillion-dollar deal to write her memoirs - but the first lady's lame-duck hubby may have to wait years before cashing in on a tell-all about his two troubled terms as president.

"Laura is interviewing publishers who are bidding on her memoirs," one biographer told Page Six. "The publishers are coming to the White House to meet with her and discuss the book."

Literary agent Mort Janklow put things in perspective over at Page Six, saying that, "The wives of presidents generally write books that have a greater public interest. Wives usually write from a personal point of view -- instead of talking about government policy, they talk about when the dog came to the White House and had to be paper-trained." Somehow, I think that the greater fascination in a Laura memoir stems from a desire to draw comparisons between the real story and the flight of imagination penned by Curtis Sittenfeld, whose An American Wife exposes her conscience.

Most industry observers think that President Bush should wait about five years before delivering his memoir, tentatively titled A Staggering Stagger of Staggering Staggering.

His so called troubled terms as President are only what he personally made them to be.

As much as I despise George Bush, it's simply impossible for me to dislike Laura. I think she's a quality individual and doesn't put up with any BS (with the exception of her husband).

Laura Bush has to be one the most beautiful first ladies this country has ever known...and one of the sweetest too. Compared to Hillary..she is absolutely stunning! But I guess compared to Hillary, even Barney looks good.

Laura is looking more than ever like Jack Lemmon's Geraldine.

Maybe she's better liked than Shrub?

Has Ira Levin given permission for someone else to write a Stepford sequel?

Love Laura! So sweet! She hosted a really nice artist event at the White House and invited artists, many of which totally disagreed with Bush and actually hated him. I know a person very close to me was actually invited, and she is far LEFT. But had nothing but nice things to say about Laura and the event.

My Pet Goat, having already been written... hearing from his mommy would be so much more interesting.

What an AWESOME first lady... Her grace will be greatly missed...
You can tell that they both love each other.... unlike the previous couple that occupied the W.H.
Wasn't he a Democrat?

Then why is all the smart money on Laura divorcing DumbDumb the minute he's out of office?

No divorce. She gets a multi million dollar house, and escorts him to official functions. She already lives at the Mayflower Hotel, so they do not live together. Sick of his drinking is what I heard. Loving couple? What a joke. Look at the Obama marriage, THAT is a loving couple.

KiKi Democrat has nothing to do with being a dog. But since you put it that way Republicans are dogs too.

Well, with all of Dubya's spelling and grammatical errors, this is no surprise.

No surprise. Most people like Laura Bush and would be interested in what she has to say, which can't be said for her hubby.

Actually if Bush is totally sincere in his account of half of what had happened, I'd be very interested in reading his memoir. Don't we all want to know what Bush thought about Cheney, or what was he thinking when he first heard of the WTC tragedy?

Ah the problem, though, is in your desire for Bush to be totally sincere. He's never been that in his life. So while I, like you, would buy such a book, it is nothing but a fantasy that will never exist. The prerequisite of Bush sincerity is unachievable.

Gosh Laura Bush doesn't deserve all these disparaging remarks. She probably is a very nice person, not the brightest light in most houses, but in that one....she definately is. To think she had to be connected wtih GW is rather sad. But she loves him and for all that is worth...she can drag him along in her memoirs and make it his too. I won't be reading it, but many will. I don't think there will be that much to read, actually.

Unlike her husband she has at least a basic mastery of the English language
