Michelle Williams' Father Being Extradited To U.S.

SYDNEY, Australia — Michelle Williams' father, a prominent stock market trader, agreed Tuesday to return to the United States to face tax evasion charges.

Larry Williams has been fighting extradition since he was arrested by Australian police in 2006 after flying to Sydney for a speaking tour in Australia and New Zealand. He has been free on bail.

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service wants to question the 65-year-old Virgin Islands resident about a possible $1.5 million in unpaid taxes from book royalties and earnings related to international seminars he conducted between 1990 and 2001.

Sydney's The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that Williams will leave for Los Angeles on Wednesday.

"I will fight this and win," Williams said before sheriffs escorted him from court. "I will be back _ I have a lot of friends here in Australia."

Michelle Williams received an Oscar nomination as best supporting actress for her performance in the 2005 film "Brokeback Mountain," playing the wife of Heath Ledger's character. Ledger, who died from an accidental prescription drug overdose in January, is the father of her 3-year-old daughter Matilda Rose, Larry Williams' granddaughter.

This is what I do not get about the media...... Michelle Williams is the celeb, not her father. The fact that her father went to jail shouldn't even be on this site, because he's a nobody. Unless you intend to run stories for EVERY person that gets arrested, stop doing it when friends and relatives of famous people are. All you're doing is tying Michelle Williams to a criminal, and making her look bad. She pays her taxes, she lives within the law....this story is irresponsible!

This is one of the handful of "celebrities" that I have real respect for. Unlike her Dawson's Creek co-star-turned Tom Cruise Clone & Brainwashed (former) Beauty Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams became an acclaimed actress and very fine and poised young woman, then wife and mother to a wonderful man. They were a talented and beautiful couple and they produced and, no doubt, would have raised TOGETHER an already wonderful little girl.

She (and her little girl) have been through some really very trying times; they've survived one of the hardest, saddest, most tragic events that can happen--a young mother and daughter lose the light of their life: their husband and daddy. Trust me, I would know; I'M that little girl, too. My daddy died from accidental Carbon Monoxide poisoning when I was 2 and my mom was 24. It is a time when FAMILY is just so essential, and I am so sorry Ms. Williams has to endure another trying episode in her life. My prayers are with her and her family.

I have no idea about her father's troubles, but I do hope Ms. Williams has good support around her now.

I believe Michelle and Heath were divorced at the time he died (or if not, they were separated). They were not raising the girl together.

They were never even married. They had called off their engagement about a month or so before he died. Really sad, imo. I think Michelle Williams is really a great actress and I like her as a person from what I've seen.

I'm still hoping there is hope to free Katie, though.

Michelle and Heath weren't married. If they had been there wouldn't have been such strife about his estate. And that's why Mathilda got all what money there was.
